The wife had a special weekend planned w/ her mom, so she deserted me. Tho't I might as well make good use of the weekend seeing as I didn't have to work. I also thought it might be a good idea to see if the DNR were REALLY telling the truth about those huge slabs in Lake Hudson.
Yup, I took the rig and camped at Lake Hudson SRA and fished the whole dang lake looking for them big 'uns. Guess what. I didn't find them. I caught a boat load of small whites, but nothing over 8".
The wind was pretty bad on Sat. and it kept me off the lake until 4:30. That lake being so shallow really whips up fast. Reminds me of Reelfoot.
I worked the shallows pretty hard as the water temps were in the low 60's. I thought the males would be in preping the beds, but didn't find them.
I decided that since I couldn't fish on Sat. I would look for shrooms. I should have had you along Jim. All I found were two ticks on my pants when I got back. NASTY little beggers.

"A boatload of whites" up to 8" could be a whole lot of fun. I'm sure we've all been on trips where we would have been tickled to death to get something like that. It might very well be that the DNR was right but your timing wasn't. I fished the same spots on the same lake 5 times this spring with little to show for it. Friday I went back and struck the mother lode. That's fishing...eh? :D

i seen the weather forecast for Saturday and stayed dry docked, i did get back out in the wood with my son Steve and we found 15 at the same place i went to before. I'm surprised with all the walking in the woods i didn't pick up any ticks, and yes i hate them things.
Did you talk to any one else there about any good spots and how the lake is for crappie, for some reason with muskie in that lake i have a negative feeling about them waters.
Hey Crappietale, you and I musta seen each other. That lake aint that big. I didn't get on the water Fri. until late afternoon, and fished the northern lobe and into Bear creek. I was in a bass tracker. I found all my fish deep. 18-20 FOW down 9-15. They took anything that had a crappie nibble attached.

I fished the same lake...... but it wasn't Lake Hudson.I was just making the point that being in the right place AT THE RIGHT TIME means everything in fishing. I fished an impoundment of the Tittabawassee River. The crappies over here (east side) are in shallow....3-4 fow. The spawn is on but it won't last long.

That sounds like good fun to me Don. I would love to get into a batch of whites, even if they are not real big. I have only caught 4 whites in my life and my son has never landed one so that would be great to see him get a few.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D
OK i need to ask, what are whites, is this a slang word for a fish or actually white fish
