    Default Double limit of crappie

......is what we were hoping for. We got to Randall Lake in Coldwater about 9am with the temp 27 degrees and to our surprise, found the lake partially skimmed over with ice. We started working the shore line with minnows under bobbers with no success, Next we tried slow trolling plastics along the drop off, still nothing. We marked fish in a 12' bay and anchored up and fished minnows and red worms under bobbers, nothing. Next, it was into shallow dark bottomed canals, nothing. We trolled a secret spot showed to me by, well I can't say by who because I CAN keep a secret. Nothing. We were going to hit the southern most lake in the chain where the water is shallower but couldn't get to it because of skim ice. We ended up docking at a restaurant and having a sandwich and coffee before we loaded up and headed home.

Very few minnows and worms were harmed in this adventure.

Water temp was 37 when we got there and 39 when we left.

Jeff did have a couple of light bites on worms, we saw tons of cool ducks and we had the lake to ourselves. The rubens we ate were pretty good and even though we didn't catch any fish, it was a good day on the water.

That’s ok Jerry, at least you tried!

I heard that OE went fishing yesterday, but I don’t see a report from him.

Well you sort of heard right, OE took his boat, and then went over the trailer rollers, etc, to make sure every thing was proper.

Hard to do when people lined up at launch. So yesterday was perfect to go to the local lake, launch the boat, move it off to the side, then go over the trailer and check every thing with the boat off the trailer.

Found I need to replace some carpet on a guide on one side, but other than that, all was well. Then I went for a boat ride.

Played with my Side Scan, and did more "Learning" on my graph. Found that the map depths were nowhere near close, learned to offset the graph to match the current water depth.
Also learned the my new phone anywhere near the GPS puck really screws it up. I did not have that problem with my old phone. Would lose GPS, boat would go sideways in the wind, then re adjust.
After moving the phone over to the side more, every ting was great, and worked as expected.

Did nothing more than enjoy the warm afternoon until the winds kicked up, made me cold, and loaded it back on the trailer.

So you kind of heard right, but fishing would have been useless as I didn't have any "Regular Weapons" AKA Minnows. Can every one see Skillet rolling his eyes at me right now?

In other news, the cat is out of the bag, Ready2Fish, has been out on his boat. He went to Gun Lake with Skillet for a test..............LAST WEEK
Then went to Erie over the weekend. I heard a funny story about MPG, and spinning of some tires from a dead stop............

    Ready2Fish, needs to "GetReady2Post"

Hey now, I got it from a good source. Its not a secret, its was "Detective work", I could have went the "Main Stream Media" route, but my "Private Email Server" is down.

Oh I also named his boat for him, after his story.......... I named it "Fat Ash" I will let R2F tell why.......
Made me chuckle the rest of the day.

Nothing wrong with a shakedown run in the spring. I had to call mine a fishing report because my shakedown run was in Louisiana.

Looks like me and Jeff were a couple of weeks early this year. The fellas down south are starting to hammer the crappie in shallow water. Oh well, maybe next year.

Well you can add me to that list of nothing to report. I did manage 3 large mouths but no crappie, marked tons of fish on bottom in 30fow, no takers. Water was between 37-39 degrees up to 40 when we left. I would guess couple weeks before temps get close to 50. I talked to a guy that was up in the kalkaska area last week fishing on 15-20" of ice. Guess we all need some trolling therapy until the crappie water are ready, lol
