Yup, I went through Hurricane Bertha, Fran, and two others while stationed at Camp Lejeune. Had two back to back a week apart. The second was worse than the first but less debri. The first one pretty much took care of all that. Used to have Hurricane parties in the barracks! I recall a buddy renting a bunch of movies and getting microwave dinners. I asked "what for". He said "to weather out the storm". Idiot.... the power goes out when these things happen. You would have though I kicked his dog!!
Went through the Blizzard of 96 in Quantico/Washington DC and had two Typhoons while I lived on the Island of Okinawa.

Yankee, I was stationed at Eglin then. They sent us home. Got the idea to go home to Morgan City, La. and fish and let the family see our new baby. Even had a couple from New York follow us. Well... Carmen followed also. Came right up the Atchafalaya to Morgan City. What an experience for our friends from NY. We all bunkered at my sister's and rode it out. Even had a tornado about 50 ft wide touch down in front of the house and went straight back up.My niece and I saw it. I will never forget her scream. Needless to say pre cell phones, we had no electricity , phones or water. We were stuck there for a few days. When we returned to Eglin 5 days later, they were hunting us as AWOL. Had to go in to see the base commander to get out of the AWOL charge. By the way, no bass caught. lol Been through many since. Katrina did a lot of damage in the Baton Rouge area where I live. But based on the New Orleans coverage, you wouldn't know it.

They were in the process of building 10 when I was there. A buddy and I would drive up on the unfinished road with a cooler of cold ones and snorkel the ponds they dug out. Was cool watching the progression of aquatic life as we worked from the newest to the oldest going east to west. Never did get busted either. 90 was covered with water at Biloxi when they decided to send all of us north that weren't new recruits at the time. Remember how weird it was to see everybody boarding up homes and businesses.

Gone are the hot days of summer......actually fall is my favorite time of year, except that old man winter is right after that. Wife and I are making plans on a visit to Florida around March.
I too like fall, except the leaf duties.
