Fish report for Lansing
I would love to say that things are going great but it just depends on who you talk to and where you go. One lake will have a bit that is non existant and across the road the fish will be going full blast. I cannot put my finger on it but if you want to fish you either go to a lake and hope you catch them or go to a lake based on what others say.
With that being said here is what I know:
Muskrat lake in Clinton county is taking some gills and Crappie. Try the west side of the lake in deep water out from the launch. If you have fished this lake then you know there is only one hole and this is it.
Morrison lake in Ionia county is taking crappie in deep water. Two holes on Morrison on the east and northeast side. One hole runs quick from the bank to 30 feet and the other goes to 35 feet.
Park lake in Bath has had reports of a Perch bit. Judging from what I saw last week, there were alot of people fishing for them but very few catching anything worth while. One person told me they took 40 and they were all over 10 inches. If you have ever fished this lake then you might know this is a stretch as I have never seen perch that big come out of there (not to say they are not there). Crappie have been taken in decent numbers out deeper. Alot of sorting along with the gills but it seems you can catch them.
Bait: Crappie seem to have turned on to Minnows in the last week or so. More so than earlier (they are on the feed). If they get finicky, try a couple of spikes on a teardrop. Gills seem to not care but I have been using one moussee and one spike per teardrop all year long and have done well.
Hope to see you on the ice.

good report
Thanks for the report. I tried Morrison lake Saturday morning i parked at the launch and took my quad east to the deeper holes.
The bite was slow i only caught a few small perch and had suspended fish that i beat were crappie but they wouldn't take what i dropped at them

Lake Ovid
Easy to get catch some muskie bait (very small gills), but tough for eating sized gills.
Crappie: a there are a quiet few that do pretty well in specific spots. I'd rather not advertise someone else's honey hole though.
Tight lines,

Day late
Ya, I know what you mean about honey holes, especially if they are someone elses. I have a ton of honey holes but lately it seems like I am a day late and a dollar short.
Lately I have been fishing alot of lakes I have not targeted in the past. I think half the fun is the challenge of picking a lake, doing my research and going out and putting it in to action. I read alot of overhead photos and a ton of hydro maps. Based on my knowledge I try to find the fish based on where they "should" be. When you start doing that and catching consistent fish based on your research, thats when you know that your knowledge is growing and gives you the confidence to fish alot of other places. I like to be the one to find the honey holes.
I also know what it is like to be in a new area and not having alot of people that want to give you information. I have fished alot on my own over the last 10 years. I like meeting up with people on the ice (or in the boat) and they are there because of something they read that I wrote. Of course, if the fish aren't biting you end up with a little egg on your face but fishing still beats working.
