    Default Work

Ya, Nice to work but at the same time it breaks up the time off that you are used to.

I fished Williamsville last week and the bite was tough (before the storm). Atleast I could find the fish it was just tough to get them to bite.

I fished Park lake on Friday and Sunday this last weekend. Friday was great for Crappie. We must have caught 60. Sunday was the other way. Few Crappie lots of Gills (most running small). There must have been a report of massive Perch as everyone seemed to be targeting those. One guy told me that him and his son took 40 over 10 inches (if you believe that). Everyone was fishing skinny water but very few biters. I caught alot of small ones.

I hit the Saginaw river and the Bay yesterday for Walleyes. Three of us took 55 Walleyes and only 2 keepers. Alot of fish in the 14 inch catagory and even more that were smaller. I don't care who you are, 55 walleye is still a good time regardless of how big they are.

I'm game all this week as I've finally caught up with work. I called a week ago but got your voicemail. 517-930-1981

    Default Sessions

    Skillet,
I always wanted to fish this lake I just have never found the time to make it over there. With that being said I have done a little research on this lake in the event I ever do go. Your best bet is to use Yahoo maps or google earth to zoom this like. I would start on on the tips of both points that stick out in the lake on the east side. I would also try the two bays one north east of the parking lot on the east side and the other to the south of that lot. On the southern end of the lake there is a cut that jets back in and narrows, this also looks like a good spot depending on the wind. I would also look at the small inlet just north of the boat launch on the west side. Start in 4 to 5 foot of water and move out. Punch alot of holes and hopefully you have a flasher. Below is an article from Michigan sportsman Mag on this lake. Remember, this article is for spring and summer. Good luck:

“Most of our waters in this area have crappie growth that is at state average or above and Sessions Lake is one of them,” Kregg said.

Weedy shorelines, manmade structure and woody cover are great places to dunk a simple minnow rig. According to Curt Harvey, anglers will find it hard to beat a gold hook and minnow combination.

“This combination works doubly well in muddy springtime water,” Harvey said. “You can tweak this set-up by using the liveliest minnows you can get hold of. I’ll hook the minnow through the dorsal fin with a fine wire Tru-Turn gold hook. But then again, on some days, I’ll hook them in the tail or in the lips, depending on what the crappies are calling for. I like to have a selection of different-sized minnows, as slabs can be very selective. I love bobbers and floats, but there are times that crappies are so fickle that you can’t use them. You’ll have to go without a float and just dunk the minnow here and there where you think a fish might be waiting.”

Sessions Lake is located in Ionia County east of Saranac. It covers 110 acres with public access on the southwest shore.

    Default I'm Game

    Skillett,

I know that John (A.K.A Bluetoe) has a tournament on Saturday so he will not be available. I have some logs to get out of the woods and I'm thinking of doing to tomorrow. Sunday might be a good day to check it out.

I had a buddy call me tonight and ask where I was fishing this weekend. I still have not decided. They hit a local lake tonight and only caught 3 crappie. They got one over 11 inches but that was the only one with any size. They did manage a good dinner of nice gills though. Neither of the guys have a flasher and when it comes to ice fishing, if your off by a foot you might as well be off by a mile.

I might hit that lake tomorrow evening if I get my work done. I have noticed the last few days the crappies have been interested in the Minnows. More so then in weeks past. Today the big one came on a minnow but the rest of the fish came on moussee's.

I have been fishing alot of spikes and moussee's this year (more so than other years). My main combo for the year has been one moussee and one spike on a chartrouse tear drop. I always keep an orange backup on another rod. Normally, this time of year the fish tend to go for black or purple but I have yet to see that.

    Default New water

Nope, didn't make it to sessions. Something told me not to head over there. I think I'll save that one till spring time. I know what you mean about new water. You find yourself fishing familiar patterns when you fish the same water.

Fished over in StockBridge on Friday. It didn't last long as the sun was high and the fish were no where to be found. I would have went searching for them but, like and idiot, I forgot to fill the augar up with gas before I left home. 25 holes and she was out of gas.

Sunday I met up with some guys that wanted to fish park lake. Found the fish out past devils hole. Actually out past the 15 foot water back in 8 feet. Look at the hydro map and you will see the southern tip of where the water goes from 15 to 10 feet. I worked over that tip pretty good. Gills and Crappie but lots of sorting. Atleast they were hitting. Crappie were easy to come by.
The 5 spike trick was the ticket.

I need some new water too. Whats close that we both have not hit this year? I havn't fished anything north this year at all. Round, Muskrat, Sleepy Hollow, none of them. Usually I fish alot of them to the North. This year I concentrated on southern waters. Fished well early but went into a lull as of late.

Big Portage had a pretty good report last week. Also I saw some guys fishing after dark on Battesse lake. You know how that goes. One or two guys fishing with lanterns in two different sections of the lake should tell you something.

    Default workin in the woods

    John,

Really have not had much time to get out. Since we have had such a nice early spring it has given me the opportunity to get out in the woods and take care of the fallen trees and leaners on this property. I would rather do it now as opposed to when it is 90 degrees outside.

Good to hear about the stealhead and walleyes. I suspect I have an idea on the area you "stumbled on" but that is best left for another time! Like we talked about before, I grew up on the Manistee river and love to steelhead fish. My dad had both of his hips replaced this year and he is dying to get out and fish the rivers again. I told him I'd sell my big lake michigan boat and go back to a river boat as that is more his passion.

Are the steelhead still full of eggs or are they "milked out" yet? Just curious but did you take a water tempurature? I suspect that with the good weather ahead that the steelhead will peak and start to drop off. Catfish would be fun also. Heck, I might be avialable to do a little fishing this weekend. I need to take a break from all the other stuff I have been doing.
