    Default july 3rd oakland county lake

    Took a break from smallmouth fishing on lake st clair today and took the kayak out and targeted crappie at a smaller inland lake in Oakland county.

    I usually keep one limit from this lake a year =)

    I managed a mixed bag of 23.
    Average size of the crappie was rather small. I love large gills so for me the best fish was the 8.5 inch pumpkinseed.

    really looking forward to the fall gill fishing on LSC.

    Default Nice catch Brian.

    That punkinseed is a beautiful fish isn't it? Way to go.

    Brian, How do you go after the gills in the fall on LSC. Are you fishing canals or open water? Any information would be appreciated. I like gills also and have often thought about trying LSC for them. Thanks.

    Hiya =)
    Well wont give away my specific locations because it took my several weeks of searching to find em =)
    But...in the fall you will find the gills stacked in shallower warmer water. The canals South of Metro have produced well for me but just about any canal will produce. You need to try several canals and eventually you will find the docks that produce best.
    Almost all gills come on a adjustable or slip bobber with a TINY jig.
    I use 1/100th and no bigger than 1/64th.
    when Gills really want a bat they eat by inhaling...too big of a jig and you end up missing a ton of fish because they cant inhale the lure/bait....otherwise they just pick at it and you feel the bite but wont get a hook in em.

    Greetings Gentleman,
    I have never fished Lake St. Clair but I've head good things. It's a good ride from Monroe, through Detroit - ugh! What is the best place to launch on the southern end? Or is it better to fish the north end of the lake?
