Default Motor will not "plane out"

I have a 5.5Hp Evinrude fisherman. It starts and idles fine. It will even rev up great in neutral or reverse. It won't however get up to max speed in forward. Suggestions?

Make sure the gas is new. Even a few months can make a difference.

    Try a new plug.

Have the carburetor cleaned if that doesn't do it.

Default Change in boat speed and ride

I have a 60 hp Mercury on a 16 foot Alumacraft. For years it would run 36 MPH trimmed out and just me in boat. For the last 6 months does not trim and plane correctly. Front end pushes water so max speed only 31 mph. If I keep trimming motor blows out before front comes up to proper plane. If I add a person to the back of the boat runs fine again. Can I make some sort of adjustment to make the boat plane properly again?

first thing to check if motor appears good/won't plane is make sure your not leaking. if you have an open floor then you know instantly.

I suspect that you just don't have enough motor for that boat. You could try shifting a little of the weight forward.
