Here is a handy chart I have used for years. Handy to have something like this on hand sometimes. I scanned the picture, so it ain't beautiful. Print it out and stick it somewhere.![]()

Cane Pole is having computer trouble so his chart is not available right now. I am adding these links so you guys will have some other resources while his chart is down.

Very basic outboard troubleshooting chart. This gives you a few things to look at and check "if this" happens.
Troubleshooting Chart
This is a great site and very informative. You can also order literature or even speak with the "mastertech" to get advise on your outboard.

Everyone should print the next one out...this is by far one of the most complete guides I've seen. Goes from cooling, fuel, ignition, troubleshooting, service, charts, and has some GREAT illustrations. This is a great read!! By the way it is a PDF file you will need adobe viewer to see it...you should have that...if not its free.

Mercury Propellers | Prop Selector
This link takes you to the mercury marine prop selection page...this is a GREAT utility for picking the right prop for your application.
Next Link is Turningpoint "Prop 101" Lots of great information and another selector. Thanks PanMan VA
Propellers 101
If you have any questions about it or picking a prop please ask...this is a great place to start though. It will get you in the right direction. Just follow the links and plug in your information.
There are WAY more props of course than the merc props but they are some of the best and with the newer hub setups can be used on most rigs. Correct propping is the biggest problem on most boats....people compensate with whale tales and foils...for the best performance of any boat...it must be propped right...ventilated right....and the engine set at the optimum height on the transom...all these things effect the way the boat handles, comes out of the hole, and top speed.
Hope this link helps you out...I will be adding others as we go along.
If you have any helpful links please post the url.

One of the best explainations and how-to's of decarbing your outboard. A GREAT read for just information if you already do decarbing and put an additive in your fuel.
