    Default mercury alarm

I am getting a loud alarm when I turn to put power on the engine. It is only a year old and a can't find anything in the manual. It is oil injected. Anyone had this problem?

Check your oil level. Since it's new I don't think it would be the float but had one go bad last year. Float gets soaked with oil and stays in the down position.

Is it a steady alarm or intermittant? Are you saying it starts as soon as you turn the key on and before you start the motor?

My float is bad in my 02 merc and I bet the same with yours. As soon as you turn the key to on position the horn goes off and will stay on the entire time. bad thing is with some you cannot just replace the float and have to get a new tank. Its costing me $150 to fix. I unplugged the sensor horn for the time being and have just been keeping an eye on my oil level to make sure all is ok until the new one gets here. I feel your pain.

You don't need to get to the alarm, you need to determine whats causing it. I have a lot of manuals but none that covers newer motors. Look at yours and find the alarm module. Then unplug the wires going to the different sensors until the alarm goes away, that one will be your problem. If unplugging all of them doesn't quiet the alarm, then the alarm module itself can be bad.

I had the same problem and my mechanic told me it was common and to disconnect one of the wo\ires coming from the sensor on the botttom of the oil resevoir. I believe the wires were blue and green and I unhooked the blue one. It is probably not the way some will tell you to fix it but it woked for me for over a year until I sold it and is still running fine today.

I just want to unhook it so I can get the boat off the trailer this weekend and fish with my trolling motor. It is under warranty but the closest dealer is an hour away and I can't take it in for a week or two. Why doesn't my manual specify the alarm circuits, and a color code. I am sure all of the sensors are series'd together with a common. Is there a mercury rep on here?

Since it is still under warranty I wouldn't touch anything. You don't want to give them an excuse to not honor the warranty.
