If i drain the grease on the lower unit of my 25hp motor will it hurt anything if i don't put more in it until i start using it again next spring.
Or is it better to drain what is in it and put fresh grease in the LU.

Probably not but why would you want to do that. It is a $10 or less deal to refill it.
I would refill it now. If you forget.....its gonna be bad news. Billy
Drain it and refill with fresh grease......then your done with it.

Here's a scenario that happened to me that might interest you.....
I used to always winterize my motor by draining the LU and leaving the plug out until spring when I would then refill with fresh oil for the new year.....did this several years with no problem because the plug being out always reminded me to put new oil in before going to the lake......
Then...it happened ....a life changing event than I hadn't ever encountered.....divorce...had to move all my stuff to my buddy's shop for safekeeping right in the middle of winter.....
So to keep from losing my LU plug...I screwed it into the LU......
Then....ugly divorce...took me 2 years to even think about fishin again......
When I finally got my wherewithalls back to go fishin....I grab my poles...CHECK....look at my batteries...CHECK....look at my LU drain plug.....CHECK.......go fishin...CHECK.....OOPS...!! Guess what....NO oil in the LU...........EXPENSIVE MISTAKE....!!
Never again will I drain the LU without replacing the oil imediately.......

All good reasons not to wait. You're gonna have to do it sometime.
The lube is not that expense do it now. It doesn't go bad that fast even if it isn't used. I change mine twice a year but I run my motor 12 months a year. Sorry to the Yankees but I can do that in Texas even in the winter.
