Default Removing Oil Injection... What do yall think???

I took my boat in to the shop today to have the prime issue looked at. While it is in there I am debating having the oil injection disconnected and going to premix. The motor is a 1997 Evinrude Intruder(VRO). I have removed it from several motors in the past and have not ever had any problems. Also can I still use my water seperator filter system with premix? Thanks for your input..

My VRO pump net bad a few years ago in my '97 50 horse Johnson so I got it unhooked. Glad I did. Now I know what my mixture is in every tank. Not a problem either.

Yes, your water seperator don't care if oil is mixed in the gas.

I would disconnect. Most of the systems work and work well. Alot of shops will nearly ALWAYS blame that on a motor going bad. You loose one cylinder and they call it the VRO...well if that were the case all the cylinders or more than one would be bad. As the systems oil the entire engine...so for that to stand you would have to have more engine damage...but its a good way to get out of diagnosing an engine. Mine was still going strong after 22 years...but I disconnected it...just to make me feel better. There aren't as many that go bad as people think. They get a bad wrap because EVERYTHING gets blamed on them. Don't get me wrong...they do go bad...but not like people think. Just my .02 cents.

I have an 88, 150 mariner that I had the oiler disconnected on, and this is my only experience with an oiling system. I was told that a lot of the motors in the earlier years had plastic and/or nylon parts that became brittle over time. When they went out, it was with no warning and by the time any warnings came on the motor was toast. I don't mind the mix being of the old school anyway.

I went ahead today and had it unhooked while it is in the shop getting the fuel pump repaired/replaced. I figure why not? It is not really that much more trouble for the piece of mind of knowing the oil is already mixed. My mechanic is old school as well and when I told him to unhook it he smiled and said " I been waiting on you to ask me to do that".

When mine went bad it was pumping a shot of oil about every 8-10 seconds. Looked like I was spraying for mosquitos every time I came off plane. And since everybody knows that back in the 90's they didnt build boat motors for gas efficency...I was burning a little gas with my tank of oil.

I removed the VRO on my 1990 200 XP Evinrude some 15 years ago and added an electric fuel pump. Works like a champ.
