    Default Which oil

The book says to use 10-40 or 20-40 oil in my 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. Walmart only has 25-40 synthetic. It won't be used in the winter, May- Oct. Will this be OK.

I use same oil as G. Never had a minutes problem. No more hours your going to run and no harder than you will run no real need for synthetic oil.

Is the Castrol a 4 stroke oil or just a regular automotive oil?

When my Mercury is out of warranty I plan to do the same.

Same as G , used to run it in drag bikes , best oil there is. no need to wait for the warranty to run out if it meets or excides manufacturing specs.

This is the key right here! Make sure it meets or exceeds the recommended specifications.

They are no longer allowed to tell you that not using their oil voids the warrenty BUT, they can say that you need to use the recommended oil specifications. Many of them have a proprietary blend that is hard to match up exactly. This is another reason why Mercury oil viscosity differs from Yamaha, which differes from Suzuki. This way you can't simply swap to another brand. I shopped long and hard to match my oil and, in the end I was never able to find anything that matched exactly. Saving money by shopping local wasn't worth the potential loss of 15k worth of boat motor. There isn't any local dealers in my area so I sourced mine on the internet. Shipped to my door including all filters. Like I said, it wasn't worth the chance to me.
