Default Jump start from trolling batteries

Quick question. I have a 36 volt trolling system (3 12 volt batteries in series). If I had a dead cranking battery, can I use jumper cables from one of the deep cycle batteries to the crankin battery, or would that send 36 volts through my crankin/electronics battery? Would I need to take the trolling battery out of series? Unhook it from others first?

As long as you pick one battery and hook to pos and neg of same battery you just have 12 volts.

Picture is a jumper system I made up to permantley install on my batteries. Always there when you need it. One end on cranking and other end on trolling battery.

You should get 12 volts by jumping from the pos and neg post of the SAME battery.
I bought a jump start unit to keep in car and take in boat with me. Cost around $50 on sale and is very compact. It has ports to charge your phone and other items also. I've wondered how long it would run an aerator or depth finder. You can recharge it from boat or car alternator as well as 120 volt supply.

Yeah, I have one of those in my truck, and put one in each of my kids cars as well.... Just have to remember to recharge it from time to time.

A couple of very important things to be aware of when jumping from a TM battery:

First, do not use any battery except the one that has the negative TM wire hooked to it if you have any kind of noise reducing ground in place on your batteries. If you use one of the other batteries to jump, you will be shorting at least one battery and things can get ugly. If you don’t know, just use the negative battery to be safe.

Second, if you have a TM with universal sonar, you will blow the fuse for the noise reduction circuit inside the head if you make any connections between the TM batteries and the battery that powers your electronics. Best to unplug the TM and/or the transducer before trying to jump.

They make a 4 way switch just for that. Ranger boat come with it now. When I get a chance I'll take a picture of it

Me, personally, I would isolate one trolling battery, and jump from that battery. Voltage concerns as well as electronic concerns are removed from the equation.
But my first course would be the little jump starter, if it is with you. If not, refer to the above.

No voltage concerns. Every battery is 12V between terminals regardless of how it is hooked up.

Neat idea! You could also we this to let your outboard charge your TM battery if needed.

I carry a jump start unit also. I hooked my underwater green light to it and ran it for several hours and it didn't take 10 minutes to recharge it the next day. Why wear out your starting battery or trolling motor batteries when you can buy one of these units for 50-60 bucks?
If we did what was most important in life there would be a shortage of Bibles.................and fishing poles
