Looks more like mildew. Usually the fuel line degrades on the inside and flakes off.
Is this what it looks like when fuel permeates through fuel line??? Plan on changing out fuel line and bulb but just curious if this crusty crap is the result of when fuel permeates through hose? Also debating on using automotive fuel line to replace just wondering if that's a big no no??? I figure auto fuel line has to suffer from ethanol fuel just as much?

I don't know how old that fuel line is but the older stuff was NOT made to use gas with ethanol added. The alcohol breaks down the rubber interior and leaves a gooey mess. I would replace it and use the better hose available at a car parts store, not something from the auto section at Walmart or the like.
Here is a PDF from Gates, a rubber manufacturer for automotive uses about the very thing you ask.

I had to replace my fuel lines about 4 or 5 yrs back and went to O'rielly and asked the same question. The newer fuel line had just been received and that's what I bought and took to my mechanic. No problems so far. The previous line didn't last much over a years and disintergrated the inside walls causing chunks of the liner to plug up filters and such. It wasn't fun but it's in the past.
