Checked my pressure and it is 140 over 95. My wife is on me about exercising so I was gonna check and see if anyone has any good recipes that you would like to share that would be healthy for me. Thanks
140 and 95 are both high numbers. (140 and 90 are the "official" highs.) You need to talk to your doctor if you haven't already. It's not called the "silent killer" for nothing. You may not feel bad at all, but it can lead to all sorts of serious problems (stroke, heart attack, etc.)
Losing weight, exercising regularly, and avoiding salt can all help, but they don't help everybody. Many people still require medication. That's why you need to discuss this with your doctor.
And don't forget: go see your doctor.

Starting "What's a good line for crappie" threads since February 2006
Disco gave you some good advice, I am 48 years old and have been taking medication for 20 years. See your Doctor.
A glass of Red wine a day can help
Dude, don't mess around and see your Dr. I have been on BPM for 4 months now. Here is what the Dr. told me:
1. skip the fries at mickey d's
2. exercise at least 30 min a day
3. grilled crappie are better for you than fried crappie.
4. take these pills
This advise was also given to me by my doctor, and I abide by it. 140 over 90 is considered normal for me. 120-130 heart rate is typical, and 150 is not uncommon. Yes, it's the silent killer. I take the medication, but I don't eat healty. I love salt. I love fried foods. I eat fried fish at least three times a week. Therefore, I don't have any real good healthy advise for you. Just work with your doctor, and I'll watch this one to see if somebody has some new advice. Good Luck!
If I Ain't Crappie Fishin', I'm Thinkin' About It............
I would say you got 3 options.
Option 1. Go see a doctor. He (his kind) are the only people authorized to order lab work so things can be checked on. He does this to get a "base line" of how you are now and see which way he needs to lead you by either diet or medication.
Option 2. Go see a doctor. He is the one who can tell you if your healthy enough to start an excersize regime. He may want to get the results from option 1 and put you on meds before telling you what and how to excersize.
Option 3. Wait around like I did, get these little inconviences like a bit short on breath, a little soreness in the chest (BUT NEVER HAD ANY PAIN WHAT SO EVER) that went away after a min or so of rest, till I had to tell my wife that I thought something was really wrong. It felt wrong too. More tightness, tingling in left elbow, pulling feeling in left bicept muscle and could not sit any way that was confortable BUT STILL NO PAIN. Ended up with 3 stints and 5 pills a day. He said I was lucky. A bit more blockage would have been a chest ripper and a long recovery time.
I had to change a few things, but nothing drastic. Still enjoy fried foods a couple times a week, as long as my LDL stays down, ride my bike 4-9 miles a week and fish all I want to. Main point is, still here to fish all I want to.
Go see the doc dude. Everyone over 40 should at least once a year. Let them take that measley 2 or 3 tubes of blood and run the numbers. May be the best waste of a morning you ever did.
I'll get down now and go get on the balcony.
P.S. I quit smoking too after 45 years. I'll tell ya how to do that too the easy way.

fugeman,
Its a must, go see your doctor. Get referred to a cardiologist ( a specialist who strictly deals with heart and blood vessel issues). I say this because if anything is wrong with your heart, he will have to be the one to fix it, so go to him first and cut out the middle man. You might have to have a referral, so check with your insurance.
By starting with a cardiologist first, he will treat ALL issues relating to your cardiac disease, like high cholesterol, genetics & family history, smoking, diet and other things. He will have access to help groups, medication samples, dietitians and the such. But most importantly, it will establish continuity of care.
Just like your regular doctor you want someone you trust and have a working relationship with. Cardiac disease is not something to take lightly.
I heard an ol' saying once that I repeat often-- " the more proactive you are, the less reactive you will have to be." Take the easy steps now, before you or someone else on your behalf, has to take the difficult ones.

Been managing mine for over 20 years now. 40 mg. of Lisinopril once a day. I'm a big ole boy! 5'10" 240+. Mine typically runs 130 over 80 with medication. I'm trying to lose a little weight to see if I could help drop it a few more points. Pulse runs about 76 bpm.
Go see a doctor! He has changed my strength of my script twice over the years.

ditto on the doctor! I have been told by several people in the know, that fish oil or flax seed oil can help alot of things pertaining to the vascular system. I get the fish oil pills from walmart, they are not very expensive.
