I'm thinking about buying a chartplotting GPS to mount on my boat. By no means am I going all-out just a simple black and white will do. Just curious as to know what some of you guys have. Right now I have a handheld Lowrance iFinder but lately the POJ has been taking forever to find me when I turn it on and it will lose position countless times while I'm on the lake. Just about time for something else.
I recently bought a used Lowrance LMS320. I still have a lot to learn about it but so far I really like it. My main issue with most marine electronics is they put so many more features on them than I would ever bother to learn to use. I can see where the newer units have much more software available for them from companies like Navionics. If I was able to spend as much time on the water as I would like I would find a way to buy a new chartfinder GPS.

I would check out an Eagle, all of your Lowrance stuff will still work on it and they have an affordable black and white model. I use the 640c and like it very well. Get the external antenna, it will work way better than the one on the ifinder.
It's all over but the fryin'......
lower end models are fairly inexpensive and easy to use. More due to finances than anything I have a 161 at the cockpit which has a basic GPS onboard and does a great job of locating structure which is really what I do on the fly.
I have a 727 w/ dual beam up front that I use for getting more specific detail. I don't have the GPS addition on this one yet. Both are monochrome models which I like just fine. Color is over rated IMO. Just FYI.

I was fortunate enough to find a used Garmin Map 182 gps on sale for less than half what it cost new. I have yet to figure out how to use everything it does but i can find my way around Lake Erie and a few inland lakes i fish. As long as i can find my way back to port and the spots i have punched in, i'm alright with it. Dont have to be a genius to use it.![]()
