    Default Dogwood is budding

...and the crappie have started heading for shore...

My son, My neighbor and I hit our favorite fishing hole Saturday and all three of us got our limit.

The males getting good and dark, the females have eggs, but not quite ripe yet, so it looks like prespawn is in full swing here in Central NY.

Fish were all on or around wood in 2-4 FOW, and chart tubes were the bait of the day.

Here's my sone with the big fish of the day - a 12" female:

Man it was great to hit the water and start feeling the thump!!!!

Thanks for sharing your time on the water with your son and friend. It was a great weekend to be out, WTG on getting your son on some fish.

Wish we could have some calm water like you have there. Wherever I show up, the wind follows.

Don't feel too bad... a calm day like we had Saturday is a rare thing around here. It was sunny, calm and 87 degrees here in Upstate NY - IN APRIL!?

Had to take advantage of it, who knows when we'll see all three (sun, calm and warm) together again before mid-summer.

The one good thing about this little lake, is that it's only about 250 acres, so the waves don't have room to get too big, even on a normal (windy) day.

I hear ya. Then again, y'all ain't had anything close to normal spring weather this year. The poor fish are probably as screwed up as the weather has been.

Keep after 'em. They'll come around sooner or later.

Yes sir.... I'd love to tie into a 3 pounder!!! The little lake I fish the most has great numbers, just not a lot of size to 'em. A 12" crappie is a slab there.

I fish that lake the most, simply because it's only 5 minutes away from home. I can be on the water twenty minutes from the time I decide I've got an hour or two free to go fishing.

Maybe this coming weekend I'll really travel and take the 20 minute drive to Duck Lake. Maybe there are some descendants of the state record still living there. Only tried it a couple times and didn't catch but a few, but I keep having folks tell me it's full of crappie.
