Default Rod holders & thread direction

I'm going to get some Driftmaster-type rod holders for my boat, but I wasn't sure if it was necessary to get reverse threaded holders for one side of my boat or not. I'll be using the holders for crappie, catfish, and stripers, so I'd like them to be hassle-free. Do any of you use reverse-threaded rod holders?

    Thumbs up

I just got some for my boat but I got mine from Crappiekiller.com. They are adjustable both vert and horz. and sit up off the deck about 18 inches which is great of the back. I got extra bases so I can reposition them around the boat as well. Check out Crappiekiller.com, Mark posts on the TN board from time to time.

Those look like they'd work great for crappie, but how about trolling for stripers in rougher water? The "V" section in the front seems shallow enough that the rod could bounce out of it.

Regardless, do you use them with regular threads or with reverse threads?

I've got LH thrds on some Driftmasters on the left side of the boat.
bait fishing I wouldn't think it made any diff, but trolling I would definitly
go LH on left side. Sure, maybe you can replace the wingnut with a hex nut and get it tight enough it won't turn, but the LH's are the deal for trolling

I have the driftmaster holders and they work great but like j white said on your left side you'll need to be careful, I about lost my best rod and reel last year when a large small mouth about took the whole outfit with it, I grab it just in time, it spun the whole rod holder sideways.

Thanks guys! That pretty much seals the deal for me. LH on the LH side and RH on the RH side. There goes more money....

No matter what kind you have, left or right be careful to not bottom them out in the base or they will strip the threads on your bases.
