    Default Rod and Reel help!

    Hey guys!

Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone first off! Anyway....I’ve decided to buy another rod and reel for crappie fishing and needed some advice. This particular rod/reel will be my “casting” crappie rod. I already have a nice 6ft lite action rod that is setup for slip bobber fishing. I do both simultaneously you see, I’ll have a bobber setup out on one and I’ll cast and retrieve tiny jigs on the other. That being said I’m looking for something a little longer 6’6”-7’ for more casting distance and in a ultralite to help fling those 1/32 lures, I also have a thing for cork handles....I don’t want to spend more then $65 for a rod but the problem is I can’t find one that fits the criteria and is a ONE PIECE ROD. When I was a kid I always fished 2 piece rods and they always flew apart when casting or got off center and it’s left a bad taste in my mouth so I’ve kinda swore them off. What’s your guys take on 2pc?....St. Croix makes exactly what I’m wanting in a rod and it’s 1pc but at a price tag of $109.99. Their excellent quality I already know but I feel I’m overlooking a cheaper option?.....suggestions?!

As far as the reel goes need some suggestions as well.....I only have 2 setups right now and BOTH are equipped with Pflueger Presidential reels and BOTH are excellent reels! I will buy a 3rd for this new pole without hesitation but wanted to try something different. What’s an awesome spinning reel like the Pflueger for the same price or cheaper?! Their $50.

Heading to Bass Pro in about an hour to blow some money haha so hope to get some replies soon! Thanks ya’ll!

Well, I'll tell you true, you'll be hard pressed to find a better rod to match that President reel than the Sam Heaton Super Sensitive line up offered by Grizzly Jigs. With a price tag around $50.00, it's a fine rod to add to any collection. I have two of them, both fitted with Presidents. The 7' model is exceptional for casting light jigs. And it does have a cork handle; although these days it's a split cork butt vs. the older style straight handles. It is a 2-pc. rod however. I've been using them for almost a decade with no problems what so ever. I just love the SHSS lineup. Worth your look-see in my opinion.

I also have the Shakespeare micro series rods and the 7’ is great for the Monet. I also love the St Croix 66lf in the premier. Out of your targeted budget but once you hold it in your hand, I think you’ll agree. Hard to find one piece rods that have the action I want.

If you have a problem with 2 pc. rods, 5 minute epoxy will fix that in a hurry (5 MIN.)

Yeah st croixs are expensive but after muying many ml actions for walleyes, i must say they are hard to beat. With that said i have got some great deals on some rods on sale if time is on your side, usually places like tackle warehouse and fishusa have great sales in the fall, so etimes including st croix. I bought an older carrot stick a couple years ago for like $50-60 on sale with fast tip and is very light and sensitive. I would check sites like this weekly as eventually you will get a high quality rod for a fraction of the price. You are over paying if you pay full retail as i didnt even pay full retail for even my st croixs. I will also say check walleye fishing forums, alot of guys selling rods that are exactly what your looking for especially if you want to save money on a st croix. Just post a wtb on sites like walleyecentral. Alot of guys willing to sell stuff sitting around that isnt posted for sale.
