    Default Weedless jig heads

I have used several types of weedless jig heads. Do they affect the bite? I have used weed guards, wire hook protectors, and slider jigs. I have used the slider jigs the least, so my question is , do they affect the bite.Sometimes when in heavy brush they are very useful. What is your favorite. Want to go fishing ....right now water is high muddy and wind blowing a gale. 10 to 20 mph makes it not fun anymore.........crappie1133

I’ve never had a problem with them. I also like to Texas Rig the Sliders.

IF they did "affect the bite" .... I wouldn't have caught near as many Crappie as I have over the last 30yrs or more. I've used basically three different designs .... thin wire loop, brush style fibers, Y shaped plastic guards ... and caught fish with them. Yes, some did thump the heck out of it, while others barely mouthed it ... but, in most cases, when I set the hook there was a really surprised & hacked off fish on the other end.

Are they pricey? Yep. Last time I used one, I fished trees or brush all day. Retied once.
To me, the time I saved from having to retie, is more than worth it.

    I use these :

fiber brush style (top) ... occasionally used

plastic Y shaped guard (bottom) ... most often used

And they are way less expensive (approx. $0.25 each)

I was skeptical for a long time about missing fish because of the guards. Then one day on a shallow fish bite, I got tired of tying more jigs than catching fish. Broke out the weedless heads, and have never looked back. Will they hang..... Yes. But you can bump them through cover and keep fishing. And the catch ratio doesn't decline.
