What I find aggravating is to buy a "premium" product and pay the premium price and I have to sit there with multiple packs of jigs and clean out every line eye as they are blocked solid during the painting process before I can place them in the tackle box.

I can buy other brands of a cheaper priced product and every line eyelet is perfectly clean and ready to go.

Every pack of painted Bobby Garland jig heads I have bought has had the painted closed eyelets that had to be cleaned and opened up prior to the jib being "ready to use". I do like the hooks as well but I will think twice about paying premium price for a product that is not ready to fish directly out of the pack new in the future.

Second trip out was better, I found some and caught ten. The line I bought with poles I am not sure I like. The line snapped a few times bringing them in, it said 6lb test. My split shots keep slipping down also. I am thinking about putting 6 lb braid on with a swivel, then the weight would ride on top of swivel. Then put a short leader with Fluro to hook or jig

has anyone tried this or should I just stick with 6 lb mono

Default spider rigger and trolling questions

I use 10 lb high viz mr. crappie. It’s worked fine for me.

I’ve used multiple painted and non painted jig heads and haven’t really noticed any difference. Bait colors is a different story. I usually start out with multiple colors and see what they like. Then I slowly start switching them all over.

I’m new to crappie fishing this year and have learned a lot already. The main thing that has helped me the most is not staying in one spot too long if they’re not biting much. I have to spend some time looking around but once I start seeing them on the traditional sonar, I set my depth and go for it. It’s been kind of like deer hunting.. I can randomly walk out in the woods and sit down but if there are no deer in the area, it’s a long day.

Thanks, I went to Bass Pro this am and they only had Trilene Sensation in 6lb orange mono. I bought that and vanish fluro for a leader. I changed everything over and used a swivel with a bead for the egg sinker. Worked great no split shot issues and only got snagged twice. Caught 20 today and some of the best fishing I have experienced, I hope it lasts.

worst thing is when you get snagged up, the long poles makes it interesting to get everything broke off or try to get it out.

I caught all my fish today on a 1/24 plain jig head with minnow. Tried some Bobby Garland and they did not want it.

    thanks for all the help

Tater .... when I get my jig hung when Pushing, I back off until my line is pointing ahead at the obstacle I'm hung on, then drop my weight down a foot or so. That usually pulls the jig off of it. If not, I pull on it until the hook straightens out or the leader breaks. I keep a dozen or so leaders/jigheads tied up and wrapped on a piece of pool noodle, so putting on a new rig takes less than a minute & I'm back in business.
But, for Spider Riggers, just backing off away from the hangup & dropping the weight down usually frees the jig. Just as long as you back off far enough that the line is pointing away from the rod tip, the weight should jerk the jig free from the hangup.

I use barrel sinkers on the main line, with a bead between it and the duo lock clip on the end of the main line. The bead helps protect the knot from being rubbed by the sinker .... but, it has to have a big enough hole to fit over the knot to be effective. The leader/jighead rigs have a loop knot that goes into the duo lock clip. The clips work great with jigs, but I might consider putting a swivel of some sort in their place if I Spider Rigged & used minnows. At relatively slow speeds while Spider Rigging, the minnow "can" swim in circles, causing line twist. A good swivel can help stop some of that.

Good info thanks, going to try the weight drop method. I am using a red bead with a swivel, I thought about using a snap but was not sure.

I run a 3 way with a hook off of one eye with 4 lb test. Off of the other eye I run a 1 Oz barrel sinker with 6 lb test down to a swivel. Off of that swivel I run a hook with 4 lb test. My idea is that if I get caught up my hook will break before the rest of my rig will.
