Default What are these things ?

As myself and buds scout the local waters for short water fish we are seeing an abundance of these things in clouds along the shore and around docks . None of us have ever seen them before and in some spots they are in great abundance . They swim like crazy and kinda move like shrimp or crawdads and have us baffled as to what they are .
I think they are in the zoo plankton family , but have no idea why we never seen them before and why there are tons of them everywhere .
I might also mention there seems to be 2 color varieties as some that I have seen before in limited numbers are kinda white and these here big bunched up ones are almost black ?
throw me a guess yawl ...I bet they are good fry food for sure though if they don't prey on the eggs before they fry hatch

I almost wonder if there baby grass shrimp never seen them before but the black spot with the translucent body @ black spot just got me wondering, or maybe baby water bugs (black kinda heart shaped) things the swim in group on the edges of the lake. just a guess.

I have no idea, I’m guessing insect or grass shrimp. Waterfleas is my official guess, LOL. Wish I had a sample I’d put it under a scope.
One note Ketchn, cool project with the mini me, would be to get a scope and figure it out.

Be carful those are highly dangerous, do not ingest or you will be on the next horror flick. Looks like water spider eggs! Be sure to let us know if you do find out.
