    Default Spider rigging and species!

I'm probably missing something, but it seems that spider rigging is reserved for crappie, and not so much other species of fish.Ive trolled / long lined for several different species, even used planer boards, but crappie seem to be the spider rigging King.

I think they prefer a slower presentation then most species, I've want to try long lining and am set up for it now, but so far pushing minnows and jigs is working well.

I believe spider rigging would be absolutely killer for bluegills. The problem is most people only fish for bluegills during the spawn.

I'm in the minority then,I fish for crappie and gills anytime, including the spawn.I have caught many gills while pulling, using micro cranks mostly.

I would expect gills to be spooky in shallow water.

I would get out in deep water and do it. That's where the gills are after the spawn.

As wilbur said, I think you'd spook more than you'd catch in the shallows.

The basic method is used for numerous species in open water
Used it to fish for stripers 6 months a year, just used bigger baits with more spacing between rods

We spider rig for bluegill in some old strip mines all summer it’s a great tactic using 1/64 oz heads on a #8 hook a lot of times we will use double rigs and it’s not uncommon to have 100 fish days all summer
