The crappie, widespread across the United States and fun to catch as well as being tasty table fare, is often called America's favorite panfish. Fishing for them can be as simple as using a cane pole from the bank or stepping it up with advanced technology and gear. Crappie University 2018 has a lineup of more than 40 expert instructors prepared to share their knowledge about the species to benefit anglers of all skill levels.

Registration Open for Crappie University 2018's Expanded Schedule

TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 4, 2018) - Crappie University, expanded to 17 classes among 11 states for 2018, has an exceptional lineup of expert instructors ready to teach anglers of all experience levels how to better their skills for catching crappies, a species often called America's favorite panfish.

Registration is open for the program that focus entirely on new and best tips and techniques for catching crappies in the geographic locations where held, ranging
from Texas to Maryland. Enrollment processes vary by hosting school, but typically include call-in and online options. Registration fee is $89 per person.

Louisiana's Bossier Parish Community College, site of last year's largest Crappie University class, returns to the 2018 schedule with a new lineup of instructors and topics. Crappie University classes consist of four, 2-hour sessions taught during weeknights and usually over a period of four weeks. A different instructor teaches each night, covering diverse and comprehensive topics through multi-media presentations and hands-on demonstrations.

Missouri-based "Crappie Coach" Barry Morrow has been involved in Crappie University since its start three years ago and says the program is a must-attend for anyone interested in the species.

Sometimes it's the most subtle tips that become the aha moment for Crappie U attendees.

"The instructor lineup reads like a Who's Who of the crappie-fishing world," Morrow said. "Each has his or her favorite techniques to share, but often it's the more subtle takeaways, like a specialty knot or perhaps a tip for keeping track of how deep your bait is running, that become the eye-opening aha moments."

Noted Oklahoma crappie authority Todd Huckabee agrees. "Seminars are one thing, but these classes are so different because everyone who attends is there for one thing only - learning more about catching crappies," he said. "As a result, the classroom interaction is amazing and the networking among like-minded anglers is unmatched. I'm a huge fan of Crappie U."

Bobby Garland Crappie Baits returns again as the presenting sponsor of the educational program for the 2018 season.

The 2018 Crappie University schedule is as follows:

"Grizzly does a great job with their January event featuring so many top pros. It's an awesome promotion for crappie fishing. We don't see Crappie University being held anytime soon at other than a college campus because the schools provide the required classroom, audio-visual environment for the presentations and handle the registrations for each venue. But we do continue to think of such things as this recommendation and perhaps something will evolve along those lines down the road. We definitely appreciate the thought. Thanks to the Crappie.com community for all it does for the sport we love so much."

I signed up a month ago and can't wait. Last year was pretty good especially Barry Morrow. I learned more in one night from him than I have in my life. If you get the chance to catch his class don't miss it. This year we get his partner Todd Huckabee on one night and I imagine he will be just as good. Best money I spend on fishing each year.

It's a great thing, but they need to be holding these in the areas around these lakes, or where a bulk of crappie fisherman and women live.
For example, why would they hold just one for KY and have it in Lexington? Just doesn't make sense to me. 4 hours from a top 5/10 crappie fishery in the nation. Also, the lakes area is full of crappie fisherman.

Top 5 community college in the U.S. for the past 6 years right here in Paducah. University of Kentucky Engineering School on the same campus.
Also, have Murray State University in Murray, KY which is right in the backyard of Blood river and Jonathan Creek which are 2 of the 3 largest and most important watersheds to Ky Lake.

I understand Lexington is where on the money is, but once again all the sportsman and the states outdoor playground are in western KY. There is also alot of money right here in this end of the state, and also is a huge central hub to the 4 state area.

I just wish there was one in the Nashville TN area instead of 4 hours away at Knoxville. Yes, I am being a little greedy but I would definitely attend.

I wish there was one in Mississippi where the top 5 Crappie lakes in the US are. They could have it at Ole Miss and it would just be a 45 minute drive for me.
