First time I drove my truck on the ice was on Michigans Houghton Lake. To say I was nervous is an understatement. Before I went on the ice I walked out about 100 yards with my auger to check ice thickness. I augered and augered and augered until I was down close to 18". When I finally broke through there was no water under the ice, only sand. Dulled a new set of blades.

Winter is hands down my favorite time to fish. Parking lot is empty, no lake lice, and every spot is usually all yours. And the always bite and are very predictable. I'll break ice any day...lol.
