Update,I have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow to run an EMG on my hand,Then it's back to the hand specialist the following week for the results. The doc is thinking the nerves are intact, but the tendons to my fingers have been compromised.I can make a weak fist, but have absolutely no pinch power from any of my fingers or thumb.
It appears I'm destined for surgery no matter the results, doc says expect to be one handed for three months either way.My catfishing trip last week was pretty much just to see if I could handle a rod and reel,it was probably a good thing I didn't get a bight,I reel with my left hand ( the one I drilled ) it was all I could muster just to reel the bait back in.

Well poo, after several test and conference calls ,I'm scheduled to go to Cincinnati Ohio this Friday to meet with another hand specialist.Test show my drilling accident has taken a sizable chunk out of my ulnar nerve in my hand, leaving my hand a bit deformed and motor skills a mess.
This doc is going to either transplant new nerves,or install a nerve tube that allows my old nerves to grow through a tube untill they meet and reconnect.Recovery time is 6-18 months,I'm shooting for ice fishing this January .I hope everyone a great fishing season,I will be enjoying you all's success, while wishing I was fishing.

2 weeks out of hand surgery, doc says expect a long recovery, but he's thinking I may end up with only 50% use of my hand. The drillbit did considerable damage to a lot of the surrounding tissue, plus it severed the ulnar nerve,My word of advise for everyone,DONT DO WHAT I DID!

Man that is a real shame and sorry that happened, but you are so right to warn all that when we take risk like that many times the bad end of things we really don't consider unless something bad happens, like with you. I hope your healing is better than the doc's say now and may God Bless you with his healing power!

Sorry to hear it's that's bad Yaker. That's tough. It really went from bad to worse. I pray you heal sooner and better than what the doc said. Rehab is boring and painful, but believe me, it's worth it in the end.

I start physical therapy on my fish cranking hand this coming Monday. Met with the hand specialist yesterday, his words were"I think you will keep some use of the hand " , I'm not overly elated. Our goal is to improve my pinch strength, and perhaps the ability to flick a bugger ( if the need should ever arise ).
Im also hoping to be able to do some fishing before winter, and icefish if it freezes, might be a lofty goal, but hey,I'm not doing anything else.

I'm thinking healing thoughts for you Yaker. The human body is a miraculous thing and has a way of mending the best it can. I hope recovery goes well and as pain free as possible for you.
