Default Minn Kota or Motor Guide?

I know this may turn into a Coke or Pepsi debate, but what's the better choice; the Minn Kota Endura 55# or Motor Guide Thruster 54# ? Both transom mount to alum. jon boat. The Minn seems to be more composite (plastic) while MG is metal, (shaft, mount, lower unit). Is one better than the other ? If so, why ? -Thanks

I don't have any experience with any of the Motor Guide motors and I'm sure they are fine but I can speak for Minn Kota's tuffness. Mine has taken a beatin and has never let me down. I have the Endura 30#.

Default I have had...

i have had both and both brands seem to operate very well. Price might be the only issue that would make my decision. Have had years of success with both, right now enjoying the success of minn kota.

you are right about the coke v pepsi............ but it's more like chevrolet v ford

Both products are good or they would not have been around for as long as they have........... there will be MK haters nad there will MG haters...............

but it all comes down to PRICE like mistertwister said and you personal preference............. which one does your gut tell you fits better.

Default cable or electric?

i had a motor guide 5 speed cable control. I replaced it with a powerdrive 40 minn kota. The minn kota is variable speed, powerful, quiet, and the cord is flexible. You can run it in the back of the boat and it interfaces with that remote control option. I don't think that there is any comparison. It makes some noise, but the minn kota is awesome.

Never thought much of motorguide until i had to take it apart because of monofilament. They are well built.--shu
