    Default Trolling motor

I'm the market for a new trolling motor. I'm looking at the minn Kota v2 power drive, my question is are the foot petals hard to use because I'm used to cable steer. I spider rig plus single pole fish and would hate to have difficulty working that petal. So basically what I'm getting at is what trolling motor is better for my needs? Lol

I have a cable steer Minnkota Maxxum on my outboard jet boat and purchased a power drive v2 for my 15ft jon boat. I honestly preferred the cable steer and didn't care for the power drives pedal. I ended up returning it and going a completely different direction with a MotorGuide xi5, which I actually got used to and like. Having the remote and auto anchor is a game changer (especially for staying on top of brush piles) and the pedal is better as well. Unless you're tied into the Minnkota / Humminbirds, then the Xi5 is worth a look. If you go the MinnKota route consider the co-pilot or i-pilot as a secondary control option. You'll end up hardly ever using the pedal.

I've had 2 power drives and like them over the cable for the hands off way they operate. Had a cable on the current boat when I first got it, changed t the current PD V2 with auto pilot and co pilot, and found trolling and spider rigging much easier than with the cable. Just my 2 cents.

biggest thing for me was the learning curve between the foot pedals, cable to electric

You don't mention if you are going to install I pilot or not but if you do you will hate that system if you cast and retrieve. I just changed to a Terrova for that reason. I have very little time on a cable type so I'm just getting use to the electric, the electric response in turning is slower so you just have to plan a little farther ahead.

I have the Power Drive V2 with I pilot and you can't use the foot pedal at the same time as using the remote. I think the Terrova would be a better option.

The Electric steer models are made for trolling and spider rigging, get the Terrova with remote, Fishing banks and in and out of trees and so is harder but with practice you can do it. For trolling and Spyder rigging, they can't be beat.

I've fished with cable steer for years and had been pleased, but after moving away from bass fishing, to crappie, and spider rigging I found the Terrova with remote control and I-pilot is the only way to go.
