What's on there now?
Most of the time the 60" is better for high freeboard boats or people who fish really rough water.
I am runnin a 2072 G3 CC. I'm about to buy a Terrova. Hard water right now so I can't take her out and get a measurement. My options on the Terrova are 45" or 60". I'll mainly be spider rigging open water. Anyone running a similar boat that can give some advice. Thanks in advance. I am leaning towards the 45" I just don't wanna make a really expensive mistake.

yikess, short grub LIKED above post
Most guys down here run the 60 in. I have a 54 on my 55 lb Terrova and it sticks up quite a bit on my Wareagle 754. I like the extra length because it helps to tilt motor when pulling back into boat and really has never affected me spider rigging. The 60 can be cut down. 45 would probably work fine if your young and strong. Just pull up on head then back into boat. I'm getting older and crippled up so I opt for ease.

If all you do is spider rig on picture perfect days then a 45" may work fine. The problem with auto-pilots with short shafts is they spin in mid air on those less than perfect days and when they do come down off f a wave they dart the boat to the left or right suddenly. You can always choke up on the 60" and run any depth you want. If your mostly in open water anyway then it wouldn't make any difference how low the TM is in the water. Also, if you have any plans to long line from the back or pull cranks from the back then your going to need a 60" because all of the weight in the back will have the nose elevated.
I've got a 60" on my 1872. I wanted the shorter shaft, but at the time, Cabelas had the 60" on sale for several hundred less. I figured I could put up with the extra length to save some $. I'm glad it worked out that way. Most of the time, the 45 would have been be perfect, but there have been a lot of times I was glad those extra inches were there for me to use.
If the 60 is too long it's not that hard to cutit down to the length you want. I cut 6 inches off of mine. It will void your warranty if you do it yourself or you can have it done by an authorized dealer to keep your warranty.
I have it on a different boat now and it would be fine if it were still 60 inches long.
I run a 60" Terrova on my Triton 2070sc.
Go with the 60. You can always choke it up to fit and if you ever get a deeper boat you will already have the right length.
