Default need help about a lake

Have Been Fishing A Lake For A Few Years Now. Was Always Great. Fish Started In March. This Year Nothing Yet. Crappie Only. At The End Of Last Year, About August There Were Dead Crappie All Over The Lake. Heard That It Runs In 5 Year Cycles. Is This True Or Is There Many Other Reasons Also. If So Would Like To Know Some Of Them, Thanks Guys

I seen this in another lake once but it was white bass that died. I heard it was a lack of oxygen that kills them. I would think this would be right esp. in August. But who knows. I sure would hate to see that.

Sounds like winterkill.Shallow lakes with heavy aquatic vegetation growth are, more likely to winterkill, than are deep-water lakes.I don't know if they all go in cycles, but some must.Sometimes winterkill happens more ofter because the lake is to shallow.Less than 25 feet deep, especially up here in Minnesota.
