If I am using a slip float then I put the split shot about 6 to 8 inches from the hook. When the fish takes this bait the split shot weight will force the fish to go down and that will move the float down. If the fish swims up the float will rise up. Either way you should set the hook.

It was suggested I post this here in the knots and rig drawings for beginners stickie forum. Many times I also will fish a tight line for Crappies, Bluegill or Perch on a deep water double dropper loop setup. On one dropper line I will have the 1/16th ounce jig head and soft plastic lure. On the other dropper line I will have a 1/64th teardrop lure. Tip it with a wax worm and you will catch a ton of Bluegill and Perch. This is what this double dropper rig looks like my friends.

This is my basic tightline rig for Crappie fishing from a boat. Thread the main line through the barrel swivel and tie it to the barrel swivel using a palamor knot. Tie an improved cinch knot to the barrel swivel bottom and then use a palamor knot to tie on your jighead or kook. You could also use a small hook snap so you could change lures or colors quickly. Drop the rig to the lake bottom and then crank it up about four or five turns. Keep the line tight. Fish it with a jighead and minnow or a hook and minnow. You can also use soft plastic imitation minnows or stinger tails.

Ship, I just found this thread. Thanks for all of the good suggestions. I am going to try the bobber stop knot with some dental floss. Been having trouble with the little red plastic dog bone stops.

I never did like those little red bones. In my opinion they were always too flimsy. I either tie my own bobber stop knots or just buy those tiny rubber ones.

I've switched to the rubber stops on all my rods, even use them on my catfish rods with slip bobber setups.

Hey how you doing I'm new to this site and I was looking at your diagram of the slip float I was wondering what is holding the bobber up in place I don't see a swivel.

This is the rig I use. The float drops down to the split shot for casting. When it hits the water, the line slides through the float and stops when the bobber stop contacts the float. Set it at any depth you want. This is my favorite setup.
