A stick steer doesn't have to always be toward the middle or front of the boat...
I installed my own stick steer and mounted it to the front of the back bench seat.... and left my floor space uncluttered....

I have a 1995 panfish stick steer, love it when wind is not a factor, and fishing small water. Like the fact that I can go 3 times on 6 gal. with the 50 hp. Big water and windy, got to take the ranger.

I have a stick steer on a 16' Duracraft with a 48 hp Johnson. Have fished all kinds of water with it including the rivers. Would not want to own anything else. The only time I have to get out of my seat is when nature calls.

Thanks for Comments
Thanks everyone for your comments and remarks about stick steer boats. They are well taken! I guess if I spring for one, I had best get a slicker and and extra seat cushion. I like the idea of not having to move around a lot in a small boat. Too bad that nature calls too often!!

I miss my old stick steer boat. You could fish all day and never get up if you didn't want to.
