I like BP. Besides having the cheapest fly shop in town, they have a great selection of everything else. Staff is knowledgeable and pretty helpful. I always compare prices with Cabelas, but I have to pay shipping with them.

I am actually going to buy a bildge from them but I will print off cabelas prices and take it with me, most of the time they will price match it at the cinci bass pro. I pour my own spoons and big jigs for the river and one time it was in the spring, I went up to do my spring/summer shopping and I was buying a little melting pot and it was priced higher than on barlows tackle, so I asked for a price match and the manager said, well I dont know because I would have to pay shipping and it would end up as the same price as his stuff. I then told him to look in my cart again and tell me that again, I had about 400.00 bucks worth of stuff and I said if he was worried about 10 bucks I will put every thing back and go elsewhere, he then changed his mind. I think you can wheel and deal with them alittle. We have about 3 bait shops in my area and I go to two of them, one day I stopped in on the local bait shop to stock up on some plastics and food and other things and the manager called to me, and I went over there and she wanted me to meet the owner and she introduced me and told him that I spend alot of money there. Anytime I go there and they are out of stock on the floor the manager busy or not will always take me to the stock room and let me pick out what I want. I am for the small guy all the way.
Pomoxis is right about Mary. She also fishes in green carp tournaments as well. She has always came through for Racoon, making him combos that are in the catalog and everything else he wants/demands. She was nice enough to set me up with a Stradic 2500 for my speckled trout rod and a reel for the short man heaver.
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish

I don't care for the uality of their Redhead clothing line----Prefer Cabella's lines.
What's not to like.. She asks where I'm fishing and what I want to catch, then hands me a bait and says "This has been working for me in that spot," then explains to me how to fish it. I'm 3 for 3 on baits that catch.
My biggest concern with places like BPS is they have so much stuff I need a 2nd, 3rd, job to pay for it all :D, ......what I meant to say, is they have so much stuff that without a knowledgable staff it would be a challenge to pick one bait out that would catch reliably for me.

BPS is great if you're a bass fisherman. They don't carry too much for the crappie chasers. And what they have is high. If you comparison shop online, you'll not buy anything from BPS due to prices. I try to support businesses that cater to crappie fishing. I figure shipping costs cancel local taxes and they're about a wash.
To the point - buy local, buy often. We need local shops much more than BPS or Wally world.
I love BPS, but don't do much business there. One is about a hour from my house.

We've got 1 BPS around here but the news around here for the last 3-4 years that they are going to take over the Memphis icon, the Pyramid. They just can't seem to make up their mind though and they keep stringing the Memphis City Council on about it. I buy things local whenever I can though, and I've even got a friend that works at the BPS and he's gotten me some really good deals and pointed me in the direction of others in the past. And, like one of the previous posters said, if it's something I don't need any help on, I'll go to WalMart if I need to. It's closer than any of the local shops and BPS. A couple of weeks ago I went up to South Dakota on my first pheasant hunt and we stopped by Cabela's in KC. It was really nice but we were kind of in a hurry so I didn't get a chance to really browse around. I picked up a Nikon scope at the Bargain Cave and a pair of Muck boots though. A friend and I were looking at knives and it was crazy. 2 Buck knives not exactly alike but the same type knife - the one made in China - 18.99. The one made in the USA? $48.99!!!!!![]()
I ended up getting neither. I just couldn't spend that much for a 5" knife and I just didn't want a Chinese one.
If BPS DOES move into the Pyramid it will make it the biggest store they've got I'm thinking. Just seems weird though; "Hey honey, I'm gonna run downtown to buy bait!""
thats a cool building. out local bait shops cater alot to crappie fishing.tons of people here crappie fish.we have a large asian population and they all crappie fish too so our bait shops got tons of selection
