It doesn't seem to make much difference for me. I'll take the average size minnows. Don't like the babies or the bass size ones either. Just give me the ones that stay lively for several casts. Have had those that died after one cast. The fatheads are way ahead of the shinners.
I definitely prefer 2- 1/2 to 3 inch minnow. First they are more lively and stay alive longer and will catch bigger fish. Last they are big enough to see how to hook which is important to old timers like me. I mainly spider-rig fishing bottombumping a drop shot rig. I prefer the #6 minnow. However they are hard to find in Ga.-Ala. They are usually mixed sizes and they definitely want seperate them. Just my preference based on experience. Bottombumper
I use mediums more than anything but in the fall and winter I use smalls and have good luck. when the fish are deep I use ruby reds and have great success. I dont use the large much at all because I catch more bass than anything.
Fatheads was the other name I was trying to remember. I know that in some places they call them tuffies, and here we call them blackheads.
The SMALL (not MEDIUM or LARGE) minnows I bought here is close to 3 inches, I think:-)
I guess my point is: many of us is saying I use SMALL, MEDIUM or LARGE ones, which may or may not give a clue if we have different references to what size a SMALL, MEDIUM or LARGE one is.
(I myself prefer 2-1/2 to 3 inch minnows, too)

Do you lie to your wife like that, too?lol.I think that a 3" minnow is pretty big.Small here is like 3/4 to 1 inch.
"Garden Hackler"lol
I use mediums because I'm not sure which of the other two sizes is best. However, I think it would be hard to find a minnow that is too large. Look at the size of a crappie's mouth--its huge.
GET THE NET HAROLD, GET THE NET!!
Mediums but don't know what species minnow.
