Pete, 1/2" tubing for plumbing, such as type L copper or even aluminum is 5/8" on the OD.
I'm not sure how well this will meet your needs, but you can buy type L hard drawn copper at most home improvement centers or at any plumbing supply.
Quit complaining about the color, just pull up your skirt and fish! -- snagged
Thanks Scott. My Ranger rails are the old type. One piece of straight, hollow aluminum tube, with a mount at each end and two supports. So it looks like three sections. Only pop riveted in the end mounts. I can easily drill the rivets, slide out the tube, slide on your normal mount and reattach with a stainless sheetmetal screw where the rivet was. So I can use your normal mount, unless you has a super snazzy two piece design.
The Ranger rail mics .875 and the driftmaster tube mics .882.
Have you ever considered as an option to have a short piece of rod tacked to the main mount bolt to allow adjustment without a wrench?
I will drop you an email.

Hey Scott, if your holder has room to pass a 3/8 bolt thru the V, we all can bolt your holder (black part only) right onto existing 2 piece driftmaster, and other brands, clam shell rail mount. That would be good retro fit for many of us.

Thanks I will look into that, the cold roll steel works but it sure heavy.
Ranger 690 I replaced all my bolts with Star knobs.:D:D
Works great easy to adjust the holders on the go. I know in my boat if someone a different weight gets in front with me. Or different rods I need to adjust the angle of the rods. Works great.
Pete
Thanks Red, where'd you find those knobs?

I dropped my 997 knob in the water and fond a replacement here. Cheap too.
I got some spare.
Plastic Lobed Knobs
I get them from one of our suppliers. With a 5/16" bolts like the Hi-Tek holders of mine use. I shipped a guy 8 last week for $25.00 it took me a while to get the first ones for my rod Holders. As all of them had bolts that were not long enough.
But these come with bolts up to 4" Long.
Pete
I like mine. I added a flat nylon washer between the vertical piece and the crossbar so I could adjust the angle smoothly. Doesn't slip, though.
