I want to add something to the thread that has made some of my small lake trips "neat". I bought a cheap depth Finder (Fishing Buddy) that runs off AA batteries. It has a 9 degrees cone angle so when I see fish on the screen they have to be pretty close to me. Also most of these lakes only have bass, crappie, Gills and cats in them unlike bigger lakes with many different species (gar, carp, shad, suckers, and everything else). When I see fish, there is a good chance that they are something that I am after. Day before yesterday, I just (paddled/kicked?) around looking for fish on the screen in the depth of water that I seem to be catching fish. It worked, most of the places that I saw fish, I caught a few or had bites.![]()
I love to fish smaller bodies of water, there is a ton of them in the area and surrounding counties where I live. Most of them don't get tons of pressure, and the ones that do, hardly anybody is crappie fishing. I have limited out numerous times on smaller lakes. The one thing that I have noticed is that it seems like only one out of every three or four years produces good fish on smaller waters.
I am thinking something like this.
Hydro Sport 2 Pontoon
Would allow me to spider rig with clamp on rod holders.. mount the Fishing buddy... carry my minnows and a portable livewell.

have become my passion. I fish 4 to 50 acre lakes mainly. I always fish from a float tube unless I do night fishing. You can get so close and be so quiet and dip a jig with a 12 ft. rod it is awesome. Some places I have never seen anyone fish and other places just a handfull. Someone mentioned the fishing buddy fish finder by humminbird. It is awesome for this type of fishing. I have only caught maybe 2 15" crappie ever, and a small number of 12" ers, but I can sure find a boat load of 8-10" crappie. I hope to never give up float tube fishing until I can no longer do it.

I fish a SC DNR 60 acre reservoir near my house. I see people towing boats to Wateree, lake crappievine, or stumpy pond. I say to myself "yall are missing the best fishing which is right here "Racoon doesnt believe it
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish
I love small bodies of water! I wish I had a nickle for every time my friends and I have been ran off from secluded ponds over the years. :D
Now I live on a small 300 acre lake that has some of the best crappie fishing I've ever seen.
Okay, I'll give up one of my secrets. Everyone lives near a golf course with water traps. NOBODY that golfs will stoop low enough to be seen by his cow pasture pool buddies fishing in the traps. Hence, no pressure. I walk to the water hole before the sun and wait for it to make its debut. As soon as I can see my line I'm casting. Just a few baits in the pocket box, nothing fancy but a pair of hemostats for removal. Mostly throw spinnerbaits cuz the vibration wakes em up and you can regulate depth real easy. As soon as you hear the first mower or grounds keeper movin around it's time to go. My personal best is 17 LMB in just over 45min. No giants but what action! I wouldn't eat em unless you want to glow in the dark. Greens and fairways are nothing but fertilizer and pesticides. Remember, you didn't get this from me.
Wake me up early,
Be good to my dogs,
and teach my children to pray.
the only lake around here is small and i love that lake.i fish from the shore and usually have good luck but yall have some very cool ways of navagating the lakes.
I finally took a look at the Tahoe..... looks good except for no motor mount for a TM, and I'd have to custom build spider rig holders. Some of the "small"/"Trolling motor only" lakes I fish are long runs to the better spots. I think I'll work over the winter on a "toon project".
Maybe a 4' wide by 8' long with a PowerDrive and 2 deep cycles.
Carpeted 3/4" marine ply deck.
Swivel seat (front or back trolling).
Aluminum rails w/ rod holders mounted.
