A buddy and I pooled parts and we ended up with less than 50 bucks in 3 t bars with 14 rod holders. The first one pictured uses aluminum holders. Here is a pic of some steel holders made in the same manner.

I have some of the river road, a two in back and a four in front. Solid as a rock, all stainless. Bases are low profile when not in use. I've seen the hi-tek models and they're nothing to sneeze at, very well built. The bee readies look like a clone of those, or however the story goes. My bases are no more than 3/8" tall. one bolt to remove. Mine also take 2 different tools to adjust. All in all, no complaints with mine.

Hi-Teks for me as well. I sold my first set with my last boat and never even thought about replacing them with anything else on my new boat. I'm sure the others mentioned are good as well. Kinda like the Ford and Chevy thing. Depends on who you ask.

Outlaw 1 & 2 posted a link showing what I have. JR's fish camp on Lake Weiss in AL is where I got what I bought. I'm told there are other distributors of them that are a bit cheaper. $80 to 100 for a four set and $50 to 60 for a two set. Hi-tek's are lower profile and well built also by a .com member. Lifting the rod from whichever holder you choose to buy after a hit should be something you try for yourself before you spend a nickle. We all do things a bit different. There's lots to choose from, be patient and look lots, you'll be surprised with some of what you see.

I just ordered some Hi-Tec holders and I'll let you know how I like them.

My only concern is if I decide to side pull with them, although, I have no idea why I would. Just seems this design will be a challenge to use that way.

I don't think you will have a problem side pulling with the HI-TEK I can pull 8 up front and 8 out the back and never had a problem easy to grab and get the rod out of the holder if you get hung on a stump you wont loose one either the tighter the pull the tighter they hold and believe me if there is a stump close i will find it.
