7' Ugly Stick Pro Light (cork handle) in ultra light action with a Pflueger President 6720, Power Pro 1lb. diameter. Most of my fishin is straight down off the boat at night with live bait. I would change some things if I was throwin jigs or shootin docks.

For me it's a 7' guide series competitor light action rod, a shimano sedona 2500 reel, and 2lb flourocarbon.

As with most of us out here I have many rods and reels. It might get a bit lengthy but I'll give you my fav's and the reason behind them. The bigger the spool on the reel, the easier it will cast. That in mind I like most any 2000 series reel. Lots of the time reels are little more than line holders so I don't spend lots of $ on them. I have stumbled onto a couple of quality reels at the flea mkt for cheap, so I have a couple of very nice ones. Bigger spools also have a smoother drag system than the tiny ones, and these need to be loosened before you put the boat away to keep from compressing the drag discs. Line is a matter of choice and I'll just say that hi vis line is a big plus.
I couldn't be without at least 2 rods. A short 4'6" to 5' rod with some backbone in the lower portion will serve you very well. The little weenie rods with no backbone make bigger fish hard to control. I spool them with 4lb and use them everywhere the cover isn't too thick. A hung jig on 4lb is almost a sure bet to be broken off. I have 3 Shakespeare micro graphite 7' rods in lite action, spooled with 6lb hi vis and like them more all the time. Pretty versatile for most everything but close quarters and shooting docks. At $16 at wally they are well worth the $ and have good action for a 2 pc rod. The 6'6" lightning rod by berkley is also a nice one, I'm not sure what action mine is rated, but it's also about $40.
Hope this helps and maybe saves you a couple of bucks in the long run. Tight lines.....

My dad left me a couple of Loomis SR 661's with Daiwa SS 700 reels attached. They're really nice outfits, and I always think of my dad when I use them.

9 ft BnM float n fly with Penn 420 SG spooled with 6lb breaking strain fireline crystal. Caught everything from rainbow trout, brook trout, green carp and his two cousins the spotted and brown carp, too many big catfish, too many bullheads, a few bream, and crappie (no slabs ) I plan on taking it to the beach to go after spots, whiting, dink blues, and maybe the other trout .

Man that's a tough one....I've got more than one favorite.

Vertical jiggin' timber or minner fishin' I like my 8' Pro Angler with a Shimano Cardiff & 10# P-Line CX.

Shootin' docks it's a 5.5' Wally Marshall Pro Series with a Shimano Sahara 750 & 6# Gamma co-poly.

Brush piles, bridges, slip corks, and any vertical jigging other than timber it's my 7' ML St Croix Premier with a Shimano Symetre 1000 and Gamma 6# co-poly. This may get replaced by a 7.5' St Croix Legend Tournament Walleye rod with a Shimano Stradic 1000 & Gamma 6#.

Default Rigs

10 ft. Sam Heaton, Mitchell 500 Avocet, 6# Mr Crappie camo. for tight line. 1/16 oz. jig & 2 1/32 oz bull shots. Puts a 1 inch bend at the tip & you can see the lift bites. The Sam Heaton is the key to this rig. 7 1/2 ft. BPS microlight, Symetre 2500 & a Thill 1/2 by 3 in. slip bobber, 6 lb Promix for shallow water. Tried a lot of combos, these two work very good.

.

7 foot Ugly Stick Micro-Lite with a Shimano Symetre and 4 lb. Berkley line.
It's not my favorite, it's my only combo. I keep three sets on the boat.
