I had a power drive TM on my last boat (a stick steer) and loved the speed control. I could get it moving so slow you could count the revolutions. TM now has set speeds and will be replaced when I can with a variable speed model. Bumping frustrates me, but I'm getting better at it.
yea a variable speed model is in my futue plans, seems like it would make things so much better. my slowest setting on mine pulls me .8 mph
one last question do any of you guys use a capps/coleman rig at these speeds? i have tried em but always got tangled up together, maybe once again a result of the speed?
Speed could be an issue but a pair of the local guys here that troll more than I do told me that your top dropper shouldn't be more than 8"-10" in length and to use heavier (stiffer) line on the top dropper as well. They got this info staright from Capps & Coleman at a tourney they fished when they were having the same problem. I haven't tried it yet but I do have some rigs tied up with 12# line, 8" long on the top dropper. I use 10# line for the rest of the rig. If the 12# doesn't fix it then I'll go to 15# next. FWIW the guys I got this from fish quite a few tourneys, local & national, trolling so I tend to believe what they say.

Variable speed TM is the berries for spider riggin....like someone else said I can see the revolutions of the prop on the TM it's goin so slow....and I'm still constantly bumpin the TM off and on to go slower....

I forgot to mention that I am in a sticksteer with a tiller type Trolling motor. I installed a Big Foot button in the negative side of the wires. Sure makes bumping the motor a lot easier.

Using 15# on the top dropper, and 12# the rest of the way on my C&C rigs. Have very few tangles. Use 3/4# weights for most all fishing unless it's real windy.

Mr. Jim....please explain your whole rig set up with the 2 oz. weight........are you using a bell sinker or a egg sinker? where on your rig is your jig etc. Thanks.
I use a 2 oz. casting wt. i have a snap swivel at the end of my main line then i have about 18 in of line below the wt. tie one end is tied to swivel and other to the jig. I only use MR. Crappie 10lb. high vis.i fish in stained water so it doesnt matter but i can see the line move if a fish is messin with it. Usually use 1/24 oz jig with spinner on it and some kind of tube or solid bait with a minnow. Dont know exact speed because i am constantly changing depending on the wind have found out changing speed by just a few rpm on tm will turn em on.
I use #8 pound test line all around, make my own rigs out of #8 or maby #6 line! I troll with 1\4 oz. at 3-5 ft. 3/8oz. at 6-10 ft 1/2oz. 11-15ft. 3/4 15-20ft. 1oz. 20ft.+ My average riggn speed is .3 but I will let the fish dictate if I need to speed up or slow down they will let you know I garantee!!!

I have read somewhere, not sure where, if your boat deck layout allows you to setup in the back of the boat and "back troll" the xtra water resistance will let you go a little slower. I don't vert. fish tho.... just read about it.
