I agree with Locator79, I had the same issue. I stumbled on a good slip bobber two years ago. They are made from a guy in MI. He calls them ESB-everlasting slip bobber!
I use the two smallest he offers, in a florescent green. They are what he claims them to be. I don't know the fella, or his name, but there co. is HL-OUTDOORS.
That's two votes for that company. Got one in a PM. Will have to check them out. I can't remember what I currently have, down to my last one though!
... Same Issue With The Thill Floats, Wears A Groove In The Top And Line Wont Go Down
For anybody having this problem, do what I do: don't use these floats! (Mick Thill certainly doesn't.)
I use a waggler with a float adaptor stuck on the end. It's a better rig: it "slips" much better, won't wear a groove in the float, casts better, and is more sensitive.
I fought the worn groove thing a lot before I started using a float tube most all the time.
The float I use almost exclusively is tha Carlisle #738 I get in boxes of 36 from the Grizzly Jig Co. I just use large enough shot to weigh it heavy in the water.
When I was fighting the damaged top floats , I used a #8 glass seed bead and a piece of shrink tube to make a damage proof top. I used a steel doll needle through the float to keep the bead positioned while shrinking the wrap . Those never wear any groove.
D.B.D. I like your adaptor. I hope you don't mind if I make up a few. I have some of those pretty european floats that are all but worthless to me .

Here is what I have been using. Pencil shaped/ slip float I love them....couldn't find them originally as I didnt know what they were called....but finally found them, probably just get more of them.
One thing Ive noticed in a side by side comparison is that the Thill Balsa turn over on their side a lot easier than the wally world plastic stemmed styrofoam floats. Important when the crappie are very reluctant or feed up and dont take the float under.
