Made my first ever trip to Larto on Saturday. Saying I had no luck would be an understatement! I had plenty luck.....all bad. First off, I got directions off of Yahoo that put me on the wrong side of the Red River with no bridge to cross. Finally found the lake and got to fishing. Followed advice given here using jigs and shiners...caught one small fish on a jig. Loaded up and drove home. When I get home, I noticed that someone has backed into my truck, right front right below the lights. Only a small dent and some cracked plastic, nothing major but still......
But, I do plan on returning as even a terrible day of fishing is better than the no fishing!!!![]()
Sounds like my last few days of fishing... hate to hear about the truck as well.
Fishin' fills the time until College football season
Sorry the fishing wasn't very good. Maybe next time. Those big Larto crappie have been known to slip up to those boat launches after everyone is on the lake and beat up vehicles.
I know exactly what you mean! The 3rd or 4th time I went up there, I decided I would follow my GPS. BIG MISTAKE! I knew something was wrong when I was on the wrong side of the river but decied to try it anyway. Followed it until it told me to take a left INTO THE CANAL!Turned around and went back the way I knew but it added an hour onto an already 4 hour trip!
Talked to Kaylonni (the previous owner of Uncle Buds) and she said that map quest does the same thing! I think I know where I am going to go if we have a nuclear missle attack! If our satellites can't find Larto then the enemies shouldn't be able to either!
:D lol

yea i was out there Saturday and my brother and i didn't do so hot, we heard from a few of our friends the better bite was in the afternoon. we started the morning off bass fishing and we managed to catch a few. around 10:00 we started to try to catch some slabs. we started around the island fishing around 1ft to 1 1/2ft deep. didn't do anything! not one fish. we went to sanders and got some lunch and tried again and nothing. we left the lake with no CRAPPIE!
There has gotta be a fish right there! PRO!
Hate to hear that the day wasn't good for you... as for them Larto directions, this site is the best place to get them... a couple trips back, I programmed Uncle Buds into my gps and my oldest son left with it to go home and return the next night, it got him back, but the way he was talking sounded like it took him down the levee and he hit 3102 across the road from the youngblood's landing road.... weird... I am like Dwyane, I am going the way I know how. And I would bet that the better fishing would be along the edges of the bayous in the laydowns and buck brush, or right up against the cypress trees this time of the year.. oh and I heard awhile back that they catch them along the grass on the west end of the lake during the spawn too.
You can't fish with a hung line!
Sorry you had a bad luck day. I am sure there will be better days. You could look at all the good luck you had that day, your motor ran, you did not get a ticket from the game warden, you did not hit a stump and put a hole in your boat, no one stole your trailer, your truck did not have a flat, do I need to go on. LOL Better luck next time.

I hear ya on the fishing on Saturday. My wife and I fished from before daylight until 2 pm or so and only caught 4, but 3 of them real nice, 1 lb 3 oz, 1 lb 5 oz, 1 lb 7 oz. The best part of the day was sitting around and drinking a few cold ones with Rookie and his wife. Sorry to hear you got bumped and no message with a number to call.
Leave two for seed. Bruce
guess i'll work on the camp instead of fishing. Thanks for the report
