Casting Jigs.
when you cast jigs with a artificial lure, is it best to slowly reel in or give the pole a twitch or so. same question while using a cork and jig.

I like to reel slow and if possible let the jig natrually fall back towards the boat trying to hit every piece of structure out there and the only reeling i do is rolling in the slack after i lift my rod and then lower it again. with a cork i do jig it in towards the tip, and then let it sit for a moment and do that changing speeds until you figure out what they want.

Depends on the depth of the crappie. this time of year I will let the jig fall to the bottom and real it in slow so that it bumps the bottom all the way back to the boat. If it come across a nest chances are something will strike it. But then again I am not the fisherman most of these guys are on the board and now and then a stick gives a good pull and makes your heart flutter.

That is a different type of fishing for me. Anyone doing this at Darbonne? Having any luck? How in the world do you keep from being hung all the time? Jim

I rarely use a cork with jigs, only a few places I have found it produces... I typically spend all my time casting with a tube jig. I've read that a jig around the 1/32nd to 1/16th oz. will fall about a foot per second... so i count to my desired depth and then start my slow retrieve, usually the slower the retrieve the ebst results... every now and then stopping and popping it once or twice, then start the retrieve again... most of the time I find a fish on the other end when I start the slow retrieve again.
