OT - Lake Decade
Hey Paw Paw Gene (And anyone else who might be interested)!
Fought the frigid gale today on Decade. Ended up with 11 specks to 3-9, a flounder, and two reds to 26.5 inches! Had fits trying to make decent drifts, and the water was yukky except on the east bank just south of the drilling rigs - and that's where the fish were. Bumping bottom with purple jigs - SLOWLY
Looks like with the weather forecast, things should get better quick! 'Course, if you'd rather chase sac-a-lait... :D

Pete, thanks for the report. I'll pass for now but glad you were able to put it to them. This Sat. I have to pick up the wife at airport around noon so my day will be shot. Sunday if I'm able to sneak (a word you're quite familiar with) away, I'm heading up the Intracoastal to my old stomping grounds. I just have to taste some sac-au-lait. Next time you're in the area, drop me a line and we munch something or guzzle a few suds.

dont think its over
dont think its over yet. There is usually some great days from mid march til mid end of april in the lake as the water warms and you get a lot of south wind and the lake stays clearer. They will start moving out then but the fishing is usually great then. Usually some real good topwater bites and some big fish. Salinity levels should be high this year from the hurricane and if they are fish are slower to leave. The spring after Rita we were killing big trout in the lake around the full moon in May. The fish leave to go to higher salinity levels if you got high levels inside some will stay. have also caught big trout one year and lots of them on the full moon in June in Mechant that were jet black almost as they had just came out of the marsh. These fish were spawning in mechant as it was a year that we had a drought and the salinity was up.

My friend has a camp on Jug Lake and he has been teaching me the area around Lake Decade. Everytime I travel down bayou penchent I think about how great of a place it looks for sac a lait but I don't know if it gets enough fresh water. What do you guys think?

danieldeville, looks like you're a new member, welcome aboard. You are right, there is a lot of good fishing all along bayou Penchant. The whole area on both sides of the bayou have good fishing in the dead end oilfield canal. Lake Penchant itself has been good in the past and is coming back since the hurricanes. Just get yourself a good map of the area so as to learn where they are located. Jug Lake area is a prime redfish area also.
