Ittran, don't feel too bad. Its early for us, I haven't done well yet this year. Those deep water fisherman are killing them and there a some being caught around here kinda hit and miss, but our time is coming. Being from Westwego and fish from a yak, you have some fairly good waters nearby. There is a couple of good canals begging for a yak down at the Jean Lafitte park on the way to Lafitte. Also there are some pits at the Pearl River turnaround under I-59, and there's the canal under the I-55 that can produce some fish. You need to talk to BigBee39 and Macropterus salmoides they are small craft fisherman to some degree and can maybe help you nail a few. I only hear about those places and have never fished them. Good luck and keep at it.

Don't give up on them, sounds like yesterday was a bad day for most.
PPG, you must have a memory like an elephant...
You can't fish with a hung line!
Hey Gene
Know you been busy working on the house etc but its not too early. We been doing real good since right after Christmas with spawning and prespawn fish.. January and February are the best times to fish the spawn near us (in my opuinion)(march is good too). The biggest thing is getting to know which canals in the area have fish that spawn early. Some canals are great January som Feb Some March. THe further from the intercoastal and river you are the water warms faster etc. The biggest thing in january and february is picking the right days. May be only one or two days a week that it is right. Also on many cold days they wont bite much all day but then the last couple of hours before dark they will move up and bite. The other good thing about early spring is less people fishing
My advice finish the house and go fishing.
Hope to run in to yo one day soon.
SS I know you're right about that. I just don't have the time to chase all over this year to try and find those early ones. I would think after this week with all those south winds pushing water back into the marsh and all that warm weather we just went through that next week should be a good week and it will only get better as the weather warms. I remember fishing years ago and leaving with ice on the docks and catching lots of fish. I'm just not that tough anymore. I have luck in catching them all summer so no need to rush. As you know some canals warm faster thus an earlier spawn, it's just knowing which. The ones I used to fish are not accessible anymore. I'll just have to learn some new ones. Perhaps you could give me a few clues one day. Another couple of weeks and I'll be close to moving back in. It won't be complete but I catch the rest as time go by.

here you
the one thing to remember is that pretty much year in year out the same canals are good early spawn on same ones later. Just gotta go on the prefront days like the last few days and the fishing is great. I fish mostly, amelia, bayou black shell canals, and back end of orange grove this time of year because the days they are biting the best have 20 mile plus winds and those areas are protected by cypress. Noticed Captain bill Lake been harassing my fish in the shell field the last two days. I had about 20 Thursday morning was slow early found a couple good canals but had to get home early because my child was out of school.
Hope you get out soon
I never go much but they have been catching a bunch somewhere in 70 mile canal but too many boats for me from what I here
Hey lttran. Looks like you make the rounds too. }:-)
The fish are biting somewhere and here I am on the computer again...
ahaha NST didnt expect to see you in here. i try to do some freshwater since its so close to my house but i really suck at it. getting skunked 90% of the time isnt much help so i only fish freshwater 10% of the time but this year im determined to learn it all. Thanks all for the input and encouragement. I went to twin canals the other day and i did notice that the water there was much warmer than that at hwy 90. i might try there tomorrow since its a free launch and no motor boats are allowed in there
