Wasted almost five perfectly good hours today out of the east landing on Chicot, working jigs of all colors three feet deep around trees near the edge of the channel to one foot deep along the bank. Rien - nada - nyet! And the weather idiots missed the wind by a good 15. Down in Buras I knew to add the two numbers to get the true wind speed for the day (5 to 10 is guraranteed to be steady 15!), but I figured the inland asses - uh, aces - would be a little more on target. Oh well, guess I'm gonna have to start drinking again while I'm fishing. That way I might come home with a good buzz if nothing else!

Hey Pete, don't throw in the towel yet. It still early. Linda and I went out Sunday and brought home nothing. Today JonEugene and I went and caught 2 out of Bayou Black plus 5 LMB. We are so ready to catch but the time is not quite here down south. Water is too low and too muddy. "and the wayward wind is the restless wind....", can you hear me singing it. Wore myself out fighting the wind with the TM. I kinda know how you feel.

Thanks Paw Paw Gene - you know how to make a guy feel better, even if said guy couldn't catch a sac-a-lait out of a bucket.
Pete
You just haven't found the right bucket yet.

We saw a bunch when we went out of Amelia. Today we saw one sitting on a tree about 100 yards from a next. Maybe it was to windy for them too.

Hey Pete, you come down and meet me and I will try to put you on some fish! Oh and swing by and pick Gene up too! We will stop and get some beer so we will be guaranteed to catch something! lol
Oh and I did see a bald eagle the last time I went to Bundicks. That was cool, I had never seen one while I was fishing!:D

Yeah, those eagles are neat stuff! They must be spreading out a bit too. I guess all the young 'uns they are making are finding new homes.
I appreciate the invitation. Might just take you up on it - beer and all!

I spent 4 days camping at Chicot and setting yo yos. My motor would not run so I was limited to the immediate vicinity of the north landing. I caught a total of 6 fish in four days. Pitiful. I did meet someone I knew coming out of the lake who caught 12 polywogs, 2 bass , and 1 white perch on his yoyos. He did not have time to clean them, so he GAVE them to me.
I fileted every one of them and had a fish fry the next day. They were delicious. It had been a long time since I ate polywogs and they were great.
The bite is off and on. With this warming trend we are getting, it should be picking up at Chicot and at Miller's Lake near Ville Platte.
what was the water temperature?
