Default First trip to Lake O the Pines 12/28/08

Made my first trip to LOP Monday. Had a friend who went once last year and we were able to find launch between us. The fog was unreal. I could hardly see in front of my face. Using my Lowrance GPS I was able to get out "in the middle" by the dam. It was like fishing in a cocoon. Dead quiet and no wind at all. Water temp was 50 and slightly stained. I figured hell might as well start fishing here (where ever here was). Luckily fish were cooperating. Had twenty or so in an hour and a bit later had our limits. Ended up with some small ones because of floaters. Once the fog lifted I noticed I was not fishing in a cocoon, but with about 300 boats worth of my best friends:D. I saw lots of guys throw back some small floaters and these huge birds would gobble them up quick. I felt too guilty and kept mine. All in all a great trip and weather was perfect. Water was like glass all day. Can't wait to go back. Here are a few pics. Almost forgot.........fish were caught in 25-30 feet of water. Most on shiners tight lining, but bigger ones came on jigs. White head, electric chicken slab slay'r and Bobby Garland baby shad in blue thunder

    hey dockshooter--

i have been out there when there was honestly 500-700 boats down by the dam. it was crazy. it looked like a postcard. you could almost walk boat to boat for over a mile. so yes, i think you read it exactly right.

You read it right..... at least 300 boats. Luckily it is a large open area and still plenty of places to fish, even with that large number.

Thanks for the report! Wish I could get over and get in on some LOTP action myself. But if I can't I enjoy living vicariously. :D

Congrats on a great day. I bet that was weird when the 300 boat suddenly appeared. Good thing you did not try to plane off and motor across in the fog.

Jay, looks like you had a lot of fun. One of the best days I ever had on Darbonne, the fog was so thick you couldn't hardly see...
