    Default Madisonville 12/26

Someone asked me a while back about the rice field canals around Madisonville so heres a report, theyre getting close but not quite, fished from noon till dark and landed 15 plus 10 throwbacks.Had alot of people fishing not a whole bunch of catching except for shellcrackers on grass shrimp, but I stood toe to toe with em using the Bobby Garland baby shad on the sacs anyway.Nice to catch some fish with some color to em after all those dull white crappie I,ve been getting lately.

Nice catch. I've heard the stories about the canals but never made the trip ...was always worried about working that area strictly off a trolling motor. Were they deep on ya?

    Nice catch!
Are you fishing the banks themselves? Laydowns? Are you goin up into the rice fields or in the canals around it?
Thanks for the info. After katrina and gustav, finding fish around the house gets tough sometimes!

I asked about them. Thanks for the report! I only went out there once and it was a couple of winters ago, but it looked like it had potential. I picked up some slip corks the other day and I am getting ready to make a sac run soon.
The fish are biting somewhere and here I am on the computer again...

Just the main canal where the bridges are,any grass, limbs, pilings a little deeper are good bets but they are super slow right now during the day, early and late or an overcast day are premium conditions, caught about the same today as whats pictured but alot more bass and a few real hoss slabs,no pics left my camera at the in-laws

Hey thanks BIGBEE!!! I appreciate the tip. When do they start to pick up out there good and hard?

Nice to hear ALL the slabs aren't dead around here. Wonder how those survived the storms? Might have been a little more salt tolerant living that close to the lake year round, I dunno.

    Thanks bro.
