Bayou Boy, Crappie akik, Joshuasoileau, or anyone else from the southern marshes of La. where you at. I am feeling a little better and hope my trip to the Dr. tomorrow is the last one for a long time. The weather was very nice Sat. so I took the boat out for a spin. The last time out was sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I launched in Houma and went westward in the Intracoastal looking for clear water. It is usually hard to find at this time of year and Sat was no exception. I didn't get to go real deep into the marsh where I probably would have found some. A couple of dead end canals had some clear water but nothing was stirring, no bait fish, no swirls or splashes and I caught no fish. Although I must say I didn't really try hard. Water temp was around 59 degrees end the canals and 62 in the Intracoastal. It was just good just to get out and ride. I heard a "rumor" that they were biting in the Lake Boeuf area so I sent out my friend and fishing buddy to check it out. He hasn't call yet but that's probably because he caught no fish. I keep looking at the board hoping someone down here had a positive report. We are getting ready to kick off the big spring run, especially with the weather as warm as its been since the weekend. The best of luck to all of you, north and south. Hopefully I can soon post somethings to brag about.

PawPaw, I haven't gone since Lartobut may be making a trip tomorrow with my cousin. Only problem is that he is a bass fisherman!
But I may slip in a jig and see if I can't talk something into biting. Oh yea we will probably be going in the Sabine River close to Texas.

PawPaw, I am still here. Been real busy trying to get that oil and gas out the ground. I went saturday morining.Fished from 10:00am to around 3:00pm. Launch off the highway between labdeville & Bayou Lourse. This is a bayou that comes off Grassy Lake. You can get to Lake Verret and any off the other places in that area. I fished the bayou about a mile before it gets to the lake due to the water. I ended up with 16 nice fish. One very good one. I was goning to try and take some pictures but started feeling bad while I fishing. Ended up in bed for the next 3 days. Caught them on salt & pepper color with a red head. This color looks alot like a grass shrimp. Half the fish were full of eggs. It would be long now!
This southern bayou boy is now living in northern la. because of work & Katrina , used to fish west pearl for crappie, Now trying to learn local lakes here. but had not very good luck, feel like a green horn.
Welcome Dwalley To Crappie.com.
Glad To Have You To The Site. The Fishing Has Been Slow Here Lately. Hopefully It Will Pick Up In The Next 2 Weeks. C.d:d

Paw Paw, I haven't been marsh fishing since last spring. A buddy of mine has been supposed to try one day this week, but with all the rain and strong winds, he hasn't made a trip yet. March 15 Lacassine Reserve will open, I was hoping the 15th would be on a monday, so the crowd wouldn't be as bad on the weekend, but it falls out on a saturday, so I am not sure if I am gonna be one of them or not. If not I will be there shortly after and I will have some kind of report....
Maybe Marshrat will read this thread and be able to tell you something positive. He fishes the marshes alot.
You can't fish with a hung line!
Hey guys, it sounds like you could help me with finding fish. I too live in the marsh area and have been looking everywhere but the marsh.
I've been looking all over in the woods but no luck, I can't seem to find any deep water, or transitions from deep to shallow, Its seems its all shallow. The water temp. looks good but nothing.
If you could give me a little tip on the marsh, I would be very thankfull. I don't know if any of you guys fished Vermillion Parish or Cameron parish, but theres plenty of marsh.
tfont, I've never fished that far west but you have a couple here that do fish cameron I believe. Down on the eastern end we look for deep pipeline canals with clear water. Many of the rig canal that cut across the marsh are also very good places, some better than others. The best of fishing is yet to come. I usually start catching a few about now and it only gets better. The thing about fishing the canals is that after the spawn the sac-a-lait can't go far, not like the lake fish who can scatter and go deep. I continue catching using the spring fishing pattern all summer. As the canal get more grass in them just fish the edges or right in the grass. They'll be hiding from the sun in or under the grass. On cloudy days they cruise the banks and are easy targets along with the blue gills. I just haven't figured where they hide in the middle of winter, but most of the canals get real muddy at that time caused by the dropping of the water level due to the north winds blowing all the water out. The northern lake fisherman can load the boat with fish in the winter when they school in deep water and down here they are hard to come by. Hopefully this coming winter I will be able to put more time in on the water and see if I can get a pattern on them. Oh by the way, welcome to CDC, it's a nice place to visit and share some information. It works both ways you give and you receive, make yo self at home.

I do alot of fishing in cameron parish, problem is that most of it is salt water. The marshes down here haven't been the same since the hurricane but it looks like Lacassine should be better this year. I also fish The Big Burns but haven't fished it since the hurricane. Also these marshes don't open until the middle of March. Hopefully I will have some reports for you after that. The best way to fish the marshes down here is with a jig or shiner under a cork. Too much grass to fish it much of any other way.
And welcome to the board! Hope you enjoy it here. Lot of great people and information! :D
