Today would have been a great day if the wind would have held off. I got on the lake almost an hour after daylight, and the fish were biting already. Lake is up 2-3ft, fished the holes that were around 20ft deep. Fished tightlined with 4 jig rigs from 12-15ft deep. Ended up with 17 that I took home, with about the same amount of throw backs, with only a couple foul hooked. Was doing pretty good til the wind kicked up and when I would unhang a fish, the wind would blow me into stumps and such, had to run the 52# thrust TM on 2 to stay still.
After breaking off around 30 jigs and snapping on of my new rods I called it a day. The rod snapped about 6 inches above the joint when I went to set the hook. Seems like I remember a couple others having that problem too. I think it may be something from the factory (weak spot on top section). I was taking extra good care of these rods and I know they didn't rub on anything to weaken them. Matter of fact, they rode in the front of the truck with me, not in the boat like the others.... Anyways, back to the fish.
Here are the 4 biggest ones (1.7-1.12)
Here is the take home for the day.
And It won't be too much longer before they start spawning, looks like the egg sacks are starting to get some good blood in them, and most of the males I caught look like they are starting to darken up...

You can't fish with a hung line!
Thats great.... thanks for the pics!
Isnt Bundicks by Indian Creek?
Dude, where's my cork!:D
Nice bunch of fish Johnny, getting some good size there too. Way to go, thanks for the report and pictures.
A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Good catch jlaughlin, nice fish. The eggs remind me of all the WP I have left in the lake to spawn this year. I sure did not take my normal winter time harvest. So, there are a load of spawners that normally would not be there. On Toledo Bend with all the log jams and weeds a lot of the spawning grounds are not fishable. TB may become over populated.

nice mess o fish, and graphite rods just give up, but anytime you break one on a fish I believe they had a defect from the start. the B&M's always break just above the end of the bottom section.
myself and a few friends have started using the brown 'wally marshall mightylite' rods. they are a bit heavier than the B&M and a bit more expensive but we think they are "tougher" and don't break as easy. the eyes on the top section are larger than the B&M and your bobber stop seems to glide thru a bit easier too. no--I don't wear a WM cap :D
good fishin'

About time you posted them pictures Johnny! I have been waiting 2 days for them!:D lol
Looks like next time I better make room in my day to go and meet you over there. :D Hate to hear about the rod but it makes me feel better about Randy (not) selling me a broken rod!lol. I think I remember Jerry telling me the same thing that dmann just told you when we were fishing at Darbonne.
Oh yea, that is some impressive fish, especially for bundicks! Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks for the replies.
Dwyane, When I got home, I cleaned them up then went to finish up a little sideline job, something happened to the software that I use to upload the pics, finally found the software and reinstalled it. We gonna have to get together sometime so I can show you them holes.
As for the rods, I am just gonna bite the bullet and order another top section for it.
No, its north of Dry Creek, or southwest of Deridder.Originally Posted by SWLA Slab Slayer

Nice fish Johnny. My neighbor and I went to Darbonne yesterday. Water was up and off color. Caught 3 throw back crappie and bunch of those small hybrids. Neighbor also caught 3 big goo. Maybe we will get them next time. Sorry about the rod. Only one I have ever broke I stepped on getting back in the boat to load it on the trailer. Luckily it was the top section and the Honey Hole here in West Monroe carries the end sections. Right back in action without the wait....Rick

Thats a nice pile of Slabs JL. Fat too. I'm with you on the rods. No way they should break there but heck, they SHOULDN't break anywhere. At least not on a fish. I'm adding lake Bundick to my list of lakes I need to fish. Thanks for the pictures. Don
Good going Johnny.I hate to hear you broke your rod.
