I have a small 15-20 acre lake (1-12 ft) at my hunting lease 12 miles w of ville platte and we catch a mess of sacs every time we go. My buddy went set yo-yos and caught 9 nice slabs last weekend. I was cleaning them and noticed that the egg sacks very pretty large. just wondering what dates around southcentral louisiana do we get a good spawn. I know it has something to do with water temps 60-68 not sure ??????? But looking for small pond info. Thanks..... if anybody wants to make a trip to my lease we can i has a lot of grass in it but some spots are open.

They can have eggs really early even during the winter. What you want to watch is the color of the eggs...before they are ready for the spawn they will be really yellow...the closer to the spawn, they will get alot redder with blood once they get really red & bloody, it is just about time!
Not sure about down there but I know last year, we were catching the spawners shallow during the end of March & very first part of April.
Bassadict pretty much covered it. It's hard to put a date on it, smaller water, quicker temp change. Best thing to do is watch the egg color. Like he said when they look really bloody its about that time. The males may be there already fanning the beds.
You can't fish with a hung line!
